BLOGS
It's Oscar night! The most predictable Oscar night in recent memory! Hopefully some surprises and upsets occur, and that Jack Donaghy and Gavin Volure are hilarious, but either way, we will be here all night long, liveblogging the events. Zach Oat and Mindy Monez will be switching off writing duties every half hour until the bitter end. Let's go!
8:30 - All the Best Actor and Best Actress nominees onstage at once, as if we won't see them 6,000 times tonight.
8:32 - Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin look a lot like NPH when they're singing at the same time.
8:33 - A Busby Berkeley tribute? Who directed this? Adam Shankman? Oh, right.
8:37 - Confusing "dame" and "damn" is total dad humor. AND I LOVE IT!
8:39 - Can't tell if Gabby Sidibe gets The Jerk reference, but she sure looks like she maybe does. And that's why she's nominated for an acting award and her co-star Mariah Carey is not.

Liveblog fail.
Fasten your feedbags, this is going to be a long night.
Blogger is slow. :)
Why does the audience look so pissed off? Clooney didn't even smile during the opening. No standing O for John Hughes?? Weird.
This is a terribly disappointing Liveblog- it's now 9:28, and all that's showing is the award given at 9:15...or is my computer broken??
Seeing Molly Ringwald and Judd Nelson looking so awful, just makes me sad.
Tooooooo slowwwwww. I demand instant gratification. :P
I don't think Clooney wants to look like he understands what's going on, so his date doesn't look so stupid since she doesn't understand English.
I thought Molly looked ok. She just looks her age, is all. She was never a great beauty.Girlish charm was what she used to have, but that doesn't last forever.
Judd looked pretty rough, though.
I don't understand why people who win short film awards should be embarrassed, they are just as important as the longer films awards. They deserve that moment just like the technical people.
Comment fail.
I didn't get the claring between George Clooney and the host. What am I missing?
I'm partial to Rachel McAdams as a brunette, but she's gorgeous either way.
Queen Latifah looks amazing. Seems like they had a better time at the Governor's award.
This year's Technical awards look like they were a lot more fun than the big show.
My God, even reading a teleprompter the Twilight kids are wooden and make me want to stab.
I could do with shorter intro clips and fewer of these pointless montages if they would let the short film winners actually give an acceptance speech.
Demi Moore is the same color as her dress.
Did anyone else notice how Farrah Fawcett was omitted from the In Memoriam tribute? Ridiculous.
Was Farrah dissed or did I miss her in the death montage?
Also, forgive my ignorance, but who was the hot hot man presenting with Jennifer Lopez?
Did I miss Patrick Swayze in the memoriam or did they?
When the score for UP played, I was struck again by how perfect it is. Sweet, whimsical, bouyant and a little sad, just like the movie itself. So glad it won!
Also, what is up with Clooney? He seems about as happy to be there as Kristen Stewart.
Patrick was the first one they showed, before they went to close up. A shame as he was basically missed by the TV audience. And yeah, where was Farrah?
Patrick Swayze was the very first person they showed.
I second the Clooney comment. Dude, you're so gorgeous when you smile. Just...once, please.
Also, Farrah was totally skipped over, and the child in me who loved Man of the House is PISSED. But Swayze was definitely there, he opened it up.
Who is the white haired guy sitting behind Quentin?
BB, I think it was Sam Worthington who was in Avatar
I know! At first I kept thinking that it was apart of the show or something but at some point it hit me, "this guy is really acting like a douche1" Smile! It is not a crime to enjoy yourself.
I don't think Farrah was in any movies. Sam Elliott is the guy with long white hair. Yes, Patrick Swayze was at the start of the memoriam montage. JLo's co-presenter was Sam Worthington (Australian in Avatar)
rachel mcadams: brunette.
Oh lord, they're giving wedding speeches for each of the best actors. The Oscars have reached a new low in cringeworthyness.
I know Jeff Bridges will win, but damn do I wish that this could be Firth's year.
Also, didn't everyone hate the 5 person tribute from last time? But they're resurrecting it anyway?
It may have been a silly 90s movie, but she was in Man of the House with JTT and Chevy Chase. I say that's enough to get her on the list, especially since Michael was included.
Yay Jeff Bridges! I love it when I actually give a hang about who wins!
Farrah did a film called Extremities, playing a rape victim was captures and tortures her rapist. I believe it was in the '80's.
Thanks Julie and kboo re: Sam Worthington. I need to google him, stat.
Farrah was in a bunch of movies (Logan's Run! Best ever.) I think it was just an oversight.
I saw Farrah Fawcett in "Dr T and the Women" just today. She was in at least as many movies as Michael Jackson (including "Cannonball Run," "Logan's Run," and "The Apostle"). I didn't see Zelda Rubinstein, either.
Actually, Farrah was in quite a few movies. Of course, most of them were of the "Cannonball Run" kind, so maybe not highbrow Oscar material, but heck, I think she would have more reason to be there than Michael Jackson.
Hurt Locker!!!!!
Wow, I'm shocked with Best Director & Best Picture
Doing the LOLs for the "I am Woman, Hear Me Roar" insrumental as Kathryn Bigelow walked off the stage. Good for her! A well deserved win(s) and sticking it to the ex too!
But if Michael doesn't get mentioned, the Oscars get accused of racism.
Agree with the blog that Fey & RDJ gave, hands down, the best bit of the night. And also agree with Betsy: Bridges won deservedly, but deep down I was kinda rooting for Firth.
Some general notes: 1) Man, when NPH came on stage in the beginning, I came completely unglued. I've thought for a while that they should just let him host the Oscars, so I almost started wondering if a freak accident had occurred and he'd been hired to take the reigns at the last moment. I thought I was in some dream world alternate reality!
2) Alec & Steve are way funnier in their later introductions than they were during the opening duologue! Maybe they're just relaxing a little, but the start was so stiff with repetitive lines, stiff teleprompter reading & general iffiness that I'm really happy that things are getting better as the show goes on.
3) Boatload of people missing from the "in memoriam" montage.
4) Adam Shankman, you suck at this! Constant sound level issues, stupid staging decisions (like the opening with the best actor/-ress nominees on stage & fetched back to their seats by their dates... WTF?!?), weird decisions on what to spend time on and what to skip over, etc. etc.
5) Clips packages very hit & miss and over-long (be it the nominee clips or the salutes) & the constant plot revelations are pissing me off! Heck, even showing too much of the start of "Up" upset me, but don't get me started on some of the other ones, like "District 9".
6)Total rating: actual production very so-so & at times dismal, much saved by good acceptance speeches and a few good presenters.
They also left James Whitmore out of the Tribute. I thought of him when Tim Robbins was doing his "Shawshank Redemption" memory-lane bit for Morgan Freeman.
We could've skipped the dance number and heard Lauren Bacall speak. That would've been fine with me.
(She looks great for over eighty!)
I thought that woman ran onto the stage during the precious acceptance speech - wtf?
I kept thinking "anyone but James Cameron" and my wish was granted! I was rooting for Firth too. He's just so darn classy. And while I didn't love the personal speeches, I did like that Juliane admitted they barely knew each other yet she was still entranced. As she should be! Single Man is an awesome movie. It's much, much funnier than people realize, despite it being about grief. And it looks gorgeous. Tom Ford should be proud of himself.
I agree....there should have been a standing O for John Hughes....plus the memoriam was handled poorly (althogh I LOVE James Taylor)....I didn't see Bea Arthur mentioned!!!(Mame,Lovers & Other Strangers)
Please, someone tell me why Clooney was so pissed?? Also, where was Jack Nicholson--he's always there in the front row with his sunglasses on. I thought the entire production pretty much sucked though...very disappointing, especially when you know what Martin and Baldwin can do.
RIP Mike, we miss you.

I guess that to get the personal loans from banks you should present a good motivation. But, once I've got a term loan, just because I wanted to buy a building.
Would you be able to expand more on this topic? I bookmarked your site and thanks.
Ah, this totally explains why several of my own associated lenses show up in the Discovery box! (The bit about the tags, I mean.)
