I'm not particularly a fan of Chelsea Handler, but I recognize that she's a successful, well-regarded comedian. When I first heard that she was an executive producer of Pretty Wild, I was intrigued to check the series out. After watching last night's premiere, all of my professional respect for Handler has vanished, because this show is one of the biggest pieces of crap I've ever encountered.
Andrea Arlington and her daughters Tess (19), Alexis (18), Gabby (15), are quintessential Hollywood trash. Every morning, Arlington literally feeds the girls Adderall and watches as they play on the stripper pole she installed in the living room. She home-schools her teens with a curriculum consisting of the only intellectually-derived information that she knows: (and I kid you not) the film adaptation of the book The Secret. Arlington also uses the self-help bible in lieu of discipline or moral guidance, primarily in the form of her very own made-up holistic prayer circles. I'm not about to criticize anyone's spiritual beliefs, but I will say that their worship always concludes with the extremely annoying quasi-catchphrase of the show, "So it is," which I would call a rip-off of Kurt Vonnegut's "So it goes," but I can't give this family the benefit of a doubt that any of its members have ever even heard of Slaughterhouse-Five, and my comparison itself warrants an apology to the late great Vonnegut, for so much as mentioning him among these grotesque morons.
Now, if you've watched any ridiculous candid reality shows about beautiful families with hideous agendas, I'm sure you could have guessed that Andrea plays manager to Tess and Alexis's modeling careers. In the first episode, the daughters and their momager (see what I did there?) go for an interview to be the faces for Biatta Intimates lingerie. After a montage of Tess and Alexis stripping down for a photo shoot, the girls are instantly hired.
Soon thereafter, we watch Tess and Alexis get ready for a night out. Dressed in insanely skimpy clothing, the teens sit among a bunch of other teat-sucking clones, all vying for the attention of Mickey Avalon (the refined singer of such classics as "My Dick") in order to become the star of his latest music video. Meanwhile, it's 3:00 AM, and we watch as Andrea phones Tess and Alexis nonstop to come home, but, in what I can't believe wasn't a tie in with Lady Gaga's "Telephone," the girls ignore her calls and instead manage to show of their stripper pole skills for the second time in 22 minutes. "Gross" doesn't begin to cover it.
The rest of the episode revolves around Alexis's arrest. Just imagine 10 minutes of the young lady squeezing her boobs together in THs, Tess flirting with paparazzi, 15-year-old Gabby crying, and Andrea praying to Bob Proctor (or something). Oh, and the next day, Tess struts her bare ass on the runway while her mother and sisters cheer her on.
I'd like to point out that thanks to Pretty Wild, VH1, a network notorious for pandering to the lowest common denominator, has managed to retain more tact than E!. Case in point: When VH1 found out that Megan Wants a Millionaire and I Love Money 3 contestant Ryan Jenkins was a murder suspect, the network immediately canceled both of the series on which he appeared. E!, on the other hand, has decided to hype its alleged criminal, while network executives pat themselves on the back for finding Alexis Neiers before she got "famous."
Look, I'm not above these ridiculous candid reality shows. Full disclosure: I love the Kardashians (I mean, not enough to buy QuickTrim or to even watch their shows on a regular basis, but I've gone so far as to have watched Khloe's wedding, ogled Kourtney's son's baby pictures, and purchased Kim's perfume), and it's painfully obvious that Andrea Arlington's family is desperately trying to ride on the coattails of the celebri-family trend with Pretty Wild. Unfortunately, the wannabe-socialites are missing a very big part of what makes the Kardashians oh-so-likable -- the smallest bit of integrity.

Tess isn't even part of the family! Not that it matters, really.
I thought it was TERRIBLE!!! I literally had to Google these girls to figure out what they were even famous (and I use that word lightly) for. I watched in astonishment that it is ok in America for girls to be home'schooled' that garbage she was teaching. It would be quite fine if that were not their primary source of education. And then how the girls constantly whined while their sister Tess was in jail. Ugh! They couldn't have been that distraught considering they sat on the steps outside the building waiting for the paps to snap pics of them! Give me a break!!

I was beyond disgusted with this show..it's so sad to see that this is the kind of smut that is allowed on regular tv now...actually I was so disgusted I just canceled my cable. I'm tired of paying for pure crap. These are girls that are barely reaching adulthood and I saw more of their naked bodies than I have my own sister who is their age. It's wrong and it's sending the wrong message to girls everywhere that age.
Please cancel this ridiculous show. Stop glorifying this type of behavior. Aren't these great role models for today's teens! I think I'll stop watching E altogher.
as a teen myself(18 years old) if i acted the way they act my parents would kick my ass. although 18 is considered an adult they should make wiser decisions regarding how they are portrayed not only on t.v. but among their peers, family and most of all themselves. their mother is really a bad parent. kids and teens learn by example. im thinking the mother has to act that way in order for her daughters to act the same.they really should take the show off air. it only gives NASTY perverts the right to look at young half naked girls without getting in trouble. im not judging these girls but please change your ways!!! men are only going to use you and could care less about you and only care about what your giving them(sex) present yourselves in a classier way(you can still be sexy just tone it down a bit). you dont have to be prude but dont put it all out there. especially for the world to see.
This was PAINFUL to watch. Worse yet, I didn't know Chelsea was a producer until the opening credits, and the episode of Chelsea Lately that aired afterward had the girls on. You could tell that she's backing them ... so it was a sucky interview. Ugh. WHY, CHELSEA? WHY??? HEIDI MONTAG IS MORE RELEVANT! AHH!!!
I was absolutely disgusted with this show. I'll admit, I often give into these reality shows and shamefully watch marathons while sick in bed (or not sick in bed, whichever), but this one was really...really....REALLY low. The entire time I was angered by the fact that slutty, rude, selfish young girls like that get their own TV shows while around the world intelligent, self respecting young women are struggling to make end's meet.
When will this end? We cannot keep glorifying these selfish people!
I am NEVER watching E again. After reading that they invited those trashy girls and Audrina to a party and tried to sit them at the same table. Audrina said she would not sit there if they were there. What next E? Will you give the stalkers their own show and sit them next to the victim? You r worthless everyone behind this pile.
I would have to agree with whom ever wrote this article. Whatever happend to people wishing to be lawyers and Doctors. Now we have people who want to be like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton, who show their lady bits. And people actually watch this crap. Really? Im switching to netflix.
It's the only time I'm watched a show and actually decided to write a letter of complaint to the production company. I lost all respect for E and Chelsea Handler. The parents are disgustingly stupid and the girls are raised to be pole dancing hookers. What horrible people to glorify.

Holy crud... this was a reality TV show? When I read the review I thought it was a completely fictional series that just sounded like reality TV. I didn't know people could be so vapid.
HA! that is probably the only reason why this show will do good. sex sells right? and trust me, these girls are familiar with sex. I am from their hometown, and let me just tell you this: Alexis is a pill popping, coke freak and so is her mom who just enables her bad habits. I used to think Tess was alright, but this shows otherwise. Plus what normal girl poses nude online? Can you say creepy stalkers? EW. And Gaby, the "good girl"...she going to get older guys in trouble if she doesn't stop hooking up with guys 18+ and lying about her age. Nonetheless, this show might do okay...because people keep talking about their ridiculous antics. Just drop it, stop youtubing it, posting comments and these girls will end up where they belong either on the streets, incarcerated, or sadly deceased.
I will never waste another 30 minutes of my life watching this family, what kind of parents are they raising trash without boundries!!! Looks like its true the apples never fall far from the tree!! Ho Bags!!
This show was ridiculous! I honestly couldn't even get through the entire show! I just watched in pure disgust at how this type of behavior is being glorified. And what's up with the home schooling? What in the world are they teaching these girls? Where is the history, english and math? I want to know how a state or city could allow this type of home schooling to continue. Will these girls actually get diplomas or what? Someone needs to send the truent officer to their house and drags their butts to an actual high school. Wow what a shock that would be to these irresponsible, lazy teens. I will never watch this show again and E! really needs to think about cancelling this piece of crap.

I just want to say I agree with all the critics of this show. Thanks for the petition links! I ended up watching a repeat out of curiosity. I feel guilty for adding to the hype by boosting ratings by one more watcher. But I was disgusted throughout. What is even more disturbing is that it's obvious the girls are acting and the show is all a big set up. So really the network is more promoting this "lifestyle" by tailoring the "script" around their bad choices and glorifying them.
I am so tempted to start talking and spill the real truth here about this family. I know it all from a-z. I have the real unfiltered story and am about 2 breaths away from doing an E! true hollywood story! Sign the petition. PLEASE!!!!

I'm wondering exactly what type of an Executive Producer Chelsea Handler is... after all, when these children were on her show Chelsea seemed politely disgusted.
I think E! sold Chelsea a bill of goods and now she wishes she didn't have anything to do with this show.
The show is about two airheaded stupid aderal popping girls who make it watchable by being in their underwear alot, and theres one boring girl who obviously doesnt put out, and makes it boring to listen to her complain about how hard she has it. There mother lets them do whatever they want without punishment and overall it sucks there a waste of good looks.

Truly awful. Caught it after The Soup tonight, and figured what the hell. Half an hour later and I was still trying to figure out who could have ever thought this would be a good show. Lets get a crazy family who wants to get famous, throw in a third girl who isn't even related just to keep up with the Kardashians (and because brunettes are better in threes?)and watch it come unraveled. I think I'd rather see another season of the Lohan's than watch these girls. With that being said, I will make sure to change the channel next time. Live and learn... I mean "so it is".

I rarely watch TV anymore, and its because of trash like this. Just turn on any channel right now...anytime of day, and all we see is women being set back 200 years, treating themselves like objects with no friggin' brains. All TV these days is dedicated to spoiled rich "celebrities", guys who are annoying d-bags and girls who think dancing on a pole for the billionth time is talented. I was so disgusted watching tonight's episode where they get a puppy and when it poops in the house a few times, they decide it really is waay too much trouble because it has to be taken out. i watched the first episode of this ridiculous show, & lost all respect for e! tv!! amongst my few questions, does anyone notice the mother is seriously doped up? maybe she's taking triple the amount one of her daughters are, but but her eyes are damn near popping out of her head -possibly methamphetamines? count in the fact Gabby is still a minor, why has'nt child protective services intervened? These people certainly are not role models, let alone people who should be"recognized" for anything!!

These girls are not even slightly entertaining or likable. They are tedious. The mother is a tad interesting because she is a monster (who is creating monsters.) Last weekend Alexis and Tess were both at an Atlanta club, with E and they went into the employees area and Alexis stole an employees I.D. and 200.00 in cash. if you dont know shes going to trial as she has been charged with burglary felony home invasion at Orlando Blooms home, shes part of the so called Bling Ring, whats it going to take to stop this show for promoting theft?This is shameful and truly just another sign that there mother Andrea condones this kind of behavior,this is one F...... family!!!!!!

Sick are those parents who let their children acting like prostitutes like it is the only way to get something in life...and unfortunately in their dirty world probably is... So I watched this show for 15 minutes and saw these bitches cry on at least 5 different times. They could t be any dumber if they tried, I literally feel dumber now that I've watched it. I still think maybe this show is satire. If is really difficult to believe that it is real. I watched an episode where these two idiots went to Cabo San Lucas and one of them has some kind of thing for a guy named Javier...who happens to be gay and lives in the US.
Regardless of whether Chelsea Handler is just having a bit of fun, I am happy that this show is pissing people off. This kind of trash has taken over my home town Los Angeles. Los Angeles used to separate entertainment from, and the social climbing dip shits that come with it, from the real city Over the last 10 years the trash and middle brow losers seem to have taken over. Hopefully there is going to be some push back soon....please.
I agree with Marco. It goes with Chelsea Handler's M.O. The terrible sketch show she did before "Chealsea Lately" was full of un-funny candid camera-like skits where she would say terribly inappropriate things in front of unsuspecting bystanders. (like jokes about being molested by her uncle at a self-defense class) I think this show is meant to be a joke...in an Andy Kaufman sort of way. More social commentary than anything else. I think we're supposed to take this show seriously to a point, but the joke is on us, the viewers.
they are copying how the Kardashians' talk and move...especially the mother. You can tell that she's trying to talk like the mom of Kardashians. They should stop this show. I am overseas and only have 3 american channels and unfortunately they have been showing this pathetic show.

First of all, saying the Kardashians have any kind of moral standards is completely ridiculous. Any family who lives in Hollywood and strives to become rich and famous by selling their families secrets and privacy is the lowest you can possibly get.

Stein's article is an excellent synopsis of this "Theatre of the "Inane". The show is a ridiculous display of Hollywood wanna-be trash (felony trash at that!!) and what really bothers me is that
young viewers might confuse these idiots for role models. In fact this show contains such a vast collection of bad behavior, bad choices and bad examples of both parenting and being a decent teenager....it is impossible to catalogue. At some point E-channel may realize that its morale compass is broken, that it is scratching the floor of the wrong henhouse for material, and eliminate such garbage before more viewers dump their channel. The show's only consistant quality is to amaze viewers at what crap "E" is distasteful enough to invent.
I am a big Chelsea fan but her involvement with this show lowered her many notches in my mind insofar as her integrity and "class" is concerned.

I just saw on-line that this show has been cancelled. Hip Hip Hurray!! I wanted to see what this show was all about, so I watched. These girls were getting ready to go out and they took off their clothes and were naked infront of the cameramen. I was disgusted! These girls are still teenagers. I feel so sad for this family. I will pray for them.
What I'd like to know is why E! would even continue to broadcase this family. Tess and Alexis are 18 & 19 years old. Why are they following them into clubs and showing them drinking underage. Seems to me the police and child services would be all over that one. I suppose Money is more important than Morals. Or - are they actually older than what we think they are?
Alexis' last minute plea deal was interesting in that she clearly freaked out at the eleventh hour, when she awoke from her latest ego stupor and realized she didn't have a legal leg to stand on. Whats really ridiculous are her claims that "I didn't do anything wrong" (even though I just pled guilty). Oh....OK...whatever!! And naturally she isn't sharing "my truth" which in her opinion would vindicate her completely. She's even already talking about how she could be early released. I actually enjoy the show....I think the mother is horrendous and the girls are beyond out of control but personally I find it entertaining. I totally disagree ! This show is excellent ! I love all of them the only thing I don't like is how easy gabby cries but youu know what , this show shows kids values ! It can change someones life seeing Alexis go through that and then they change because they don't want to go through that kind of stuff. This show is just all around good, youu have the beautiful girls the nice guys , it's just all good and shows how tough it actually is to be in the spotlight 24/7 like that.
