Morena Baccarin Sheds Her Lizard Skin, Drops Hints About the V Finale

Tonight is the season finale of V, and we were looking forward to some kind of massive shift in the status quo -- possibly the aliens being revealed as lizards, possibly the fleet parked behind Mars getting bored and invading. But after talking to the show's star Morena Baccarin ("Anna"), our hope is fading. While she was very friendly, her description of a dinner party as a "big thing" that happens in the episode already has us dozing off. Still, we'll give her the benefit of the doubt, because she was on Firefly and has therefore earned our good will. So read our short, spoiler-free exchange with the Visitor with the sexiest haircut before tuning in for tonight's finale.

TWoP: Without giving away the finale, can we expect big changes for next season, or will the drama continue in the same vein?
Morena Baccarin: It's definitely going to continue in the same vein. Every show has a pretty big reveal, and we definitely don't disappoint for the last one. A lot of pretty big things happen, you know, there's a big family dinner between Erica and Anna and the two kids, which is pretty great.

So we shouldn't expect the big invasion to happen this week?
Baccarin: Oh, well, if we did, then we'd have no show. [Laughs] We have to save something for the next season.

How does the scale of the V production compare to other TV shows you've worked on?
Baccarin: It's intense. We have eight-day episodes, and there's a lot to do because of the amount of green screen and the amount of special effects that we need to do, so it's very hurried, and it's very long days and a lot of scenes in one day. But it's pretty incredible; I've never been on a show of this scale in terms of effects and cast and hype, so it's really fun.

Is it hard to keep your composure playing such a poker-faced character, who keeps her emotions in check?
Baccarin: Sometimes. Sometimes you want to be more emotional, and express more than you're able to reveal, but it's fun. It's a fun character, and within that structure there's a lot of freedom to play with nuances of emotions and little hints of things that can get people hooked and interested.

Anna's been staying away from the action, but do you look forward to getting to mix it up a bit at some point?
Baccarin: Sure, why not. I think Anna can pretty much do anything. I like the idea, although, that she lets everybody else get their hands dirty, and she just keeps herself occupied with reigning over the land, and prefers to just let the henchmen do the work.

Are there any other shows you try to watch?
Baccarin: I love Modern Family, I don't exactly watch it when it's on, but I try to catch up on it when I can, it's one of my favorite shows. And I'm really into Nurse Jackie.

I know you like cooking, but do you ever watch cooking shows like Top Chef?
Baccarin: I don't, because I just hate sitting around the house watching TV when I could be cooking or doing something. Sometimes I record the Mario Batali shows and watch them and make some Italian meals, but I prefer to just have a recipe and try to do it.

I recently saw the small role you played in Stolen; any other movie roles on the horizon?
Baccarin: No, I haven't had any time, I've been just focusing on V.

Do you ever miss the past shows you've done, that have ended prematurely: Still Life, Heartland, Firefly?
Baccarin: It would have been really nice to have done any of those shows for a long period of time. Of course, Firefly was such a special experience, I wish we were still doing that show. But, unfortunately, I'm not the one making the decisions... and maybe that's a good thing. [Laughs.]
