Avoid burn notices this summer by using a sunblock with a strong SPF, preferably one that can stop a bullet. So, SPF a billion. Also, wear a wide-brimmed hat.

Burn Notice: Season Three
Given the unemployment rate in this country, this past season of Burn Notice was particularly apt, since it was all about burned spy Michael Weston undergoing a job search. Wanting to get back into the spy business, he networked, dropped off his resumé, hired a headhunter, and basically did everything he could to go pro again. Granted, there's no money in freelance hero-for hire work, but the joy of working with your two best friends, one of whom you sleep with and the other of whom is Bruce Campbell, has to count for something, right? Plus, you get to blow more stuff up when you're your own boss, which I learned that summer I mowed lawns.

Foyle's War: Set 6
Foyle's War is like the Rolls Royce of police procedurals. The series, set in wartime Britain, only puts out a few episodes a year, each of which is nearly two hours long. It strives for historical accuracy, pays meticulous attention to detail and is beloved by posh people around the world. We are not posh, but we can certainly appreciate its clean lines and sensual interiors.

Life
If the dulcet tones of the BBC's David Attenborough aren't up your alley, you can also get this breathtaking nature documentary series with narration by Oprah Winfrey. It's a matter of taste, I suppose, as is the diet of the panther chameleon. Check out what this dude eats:

Rescue Me: The Fifth Season
Come for the Michael J. Fox and Maura Tierney guest appearances, stay to see somebody finally shoot Denis Leary. If that's not worth the price of a box set, I don't know what is.

Drop Dead Diva: The Complete First Season
When you think about it, this show is pretty much a remake of The Hot Chick, except instead of inhabiting Rob Schneider, the sexy girl is in the body of a plus-sized lawyer. I'll say this -- it's certainly a step up.

The Cleaner: The Final Season
I'd bet money that this two-season show would have been more successful under a different title. Wouldn't you much rather watch a show called The Interventionist, or maybe Booze Clues? The name "The Cleaner" probably brought in a lot of Leon fans, but they likely left disappointed when Ben Bratt didn't whack anybody.

Band of Brothers/The Pacific: Part 1
If you don't already own Band of Brothers, here's your chance to get the awesome WWII series along with the first episode of HBO's follow-up series, The Pacific. If you do have Band of Brothers, well, you might as well wait for the Pacific set to come out. It's not so good that you need to own two copies.

American Pickers: The Complete Season One
This show is like the anti-Hoarders, in that it follows two guys who seek out people with a lot of junk, then go through it looking for vintage items to use in interior decorating. Not only are they going through people's trash, accumulating all this stuff in a truck and taking it home, but it's showing that if you have a lot of junk, there might be something valuable in there, so you shouldn't throw anything away, ever. Did I mention I love this show?

16 and Pregnant: Season 2, Part 1
Coming soon: 17 With a Mortgage, a new teen nightmare series from MTV.

Also out this week:
Midsomer Murders: Set 15 Who stills live in the English county of Midsomer, where there have been about 100 murders since 1997?
Peanuts: The 1970s Collection: Vol. 2 Even more crummy Peanuts specials, including It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown. Seriously?
Ghost Hunters International: Season One, Part One These are the only Ghost Hunters to ever get a mandate from the United Nations.
Mister Ed: The Complete Third Season This is a very mythology-heavy season of the show. ...Just kidding, it's about a talking horse.
Hope Springs ...but not eternal, as this series about four female ex-cons hiding out in Scotland only lasted eight episodes.
The Three Stooges Collection: 1955-1959 The Stooges are in their 50s and 60s by this point, and Joe Besser is a regular. Make of that what you will.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Vol. 7 Yes, a show starring a wad of meat has lasted longer and had more seasons than Lost.
