Today's news is chock full of surprises (Daniel Tosh outranking Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert?) and some not so surprising (Goodbye to High Society), if you have any sense of dignity when it comes to your TV lineup.
Network ratings for Comedy Central revealed that Tosh.0 with Daniel Tosh has been getting higher ratings than The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report. Which proves the age-old debate that no matter how dumbed down and ridiculed politics are, Americans will always prefer a YouTube video of a kid getting kicked in the privates by a middle-schooler on a park swing as enticing content.
Joining them on Comedy Central, Doug Benson's comedy showcase The Benson Interruption, which he performs at LA's Largo and Upright Citizens Brigade, will be filmed to air in the fall. The show features Benson interrupting and commenting on comedians as they perform material for an audience. Unlike other bizarre TV interruptions (Kanye, Kim D.), we welcome Benson's hilarious input and opinions with open arms.
CW's High Society (cue pot joke from Doug Benson) which followed the life of socialite Tinsley Mortimer has been cancelled after one season because Mortimer and her family didn't like the way they were portrayed, which shouldn't worry them since no one was watching the show anyway. Perhaps Mortimer will have better luck on a show with a very different take on socialite life in my new guilty pleasure, You're Cut Off.
In more reality show news, there are rumors that American Idol's Casey James may be the next Bachelor. The major difference between his past reality show experience and being on The Bachelor is that there's no uncertainty in the fact that he'll wind up losing, as Chris Harrison's failed matchmaking percentage reveals.
Among the million other random celebrities who have done Law and Order: SVU cameos, Joan Cusack will be the next one, playing the mother of a girl who's been missing for several years and whose other daughter goes missing. Airing during the episodes when Lost's Henry Ian Cusick will appear on the show, my bet is those girls are somewhere on The Island... or a brothel on Long Island.
Subscribers to AT&T's U-Verse are at risk of losing AMC right before the premiere of Mad Men Season 4 if a contract isn't settled between AT&T and AMC's parent company, Rainbow Media Holdings. I can only imagine how many dirty martinis will be thrown at AT&T execs if Mad Men fans don't get their dose of Don Draper.
