Today's TWoP News: July 20, 2010

The damage (for Damages) is reversed! Good news for The Good Wife! A relatively better day for TV news (and lame attempts at plays on words, clearly)...

Patty Hewes will live to see (and have freak-outs about) another day -- on satellite at least, as DirecTV has arranged for a 2-season deal for recently-cancelled series Damages. The catch is, it won't also be aired on regular cable the way their deal to save Friday Night Lights played out. So Damages fans, start figuring out which one of your co-workers that still has satellite you'll suddenly befriend; otherwise you'll be waiting like the rest of us for the DVD release.

The Good Wife will have more good-looking male actors (competition for Chris Noth?) to provide a reason to watch this Emmy-nominated series as FlashForward's Michael Ealy and Friday Night Lights' Scott Porter join the cast. Ealy will play Derrick Bond, the head attorney of the firm that merges with Gardner & Lockhart and Porter will be private-eye Blake from the new firm, who will create sexual tension for sexually ambiguous Kalinda (Archie Panjabi). If Porter doesn't get a reaction from her, there's no question she swings the other way.

The cast of HBO's Big Love gets bigger, but less loving, as 24 villain Gregory Itzin joins them in the role of Utah's Republican Majority Leader, Senator Richard Dwyer. This should hopefully bring back the excitement of good vs. evil vs. Nicki's ugly braid that the series had in its first few seasons.

Yet another reunion of former cast members from a long-dead TV series on a new show, this time with everyone's favorite overbearing (and adorable) mother-in-law from Everybody Loves Raymond and her favorite person to pick on, next to husband Frank. Emmy-winner Doris Roberts will guest star on Patricia Heaton's ABC sitcom The Middle as Brick's (Atticus Shaffer) new teacher who criticizes Frankie's (Heaton) parenting skills. As long as Brad Garrett doesn't appear as her annoyingly dependent son, this should give the extra boost this series needs to attract an audience.

After two stints with the P. Diddy-managed girl group on Making the Band, Danity Kane's Aubrey O'Day gets a third chance, this time granted by Oxygen, to have her own reality show. The Aubrey O'Day Project will follow her attempt to make a comeback as a singer, which shouldn't be as difficult for her, since she's the only name anyone remembers from the one-hit wonder girl band.

Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, the spin-off show from Criminal Minds, will have a familiar face as Kirsten Vangsness will also portray her role as quirky hacker-turned FBI techie Penelope Garcia on the new installment while continuing to play her on the original series. Wonder if future castmate Janeane Garofolo will be cool with another kinda nerdy, kinda funny, thick-lensed glasses-wearing chick on the show.

Scott Porter? Umm ...nooo. He's pretty but really not that hot. If you really want to know if Kalinda isn't that into men ...the should have dumped FNL's Taylor Kitsch into her lap. No way any sane, red-blooded woman with an ounce of attraction to the other sex would turn that down.!

I love how you guys pretend that illegal downloading doesn't exist. "Oh drat! How will we ever see this show now? We'll have to wait for the DVD to come out. *wink*"

It's very cute, TWoP.
