BLOGS
We've got some tantalizing tidbits for you TV buffs today, involving the hopeful revamping of formerly funny How I Met Your Mother, a look at the first New Jersey native to appear on the incomparable Jersey Shore in Season 3 and, oh, a sex scandal. Always a good time here at TWoP News.
Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, the minds behind fan favorite How I Met Your Mother, acknowledged the gimmicky (and rather disappointing, in my so very humble opinion) nature of Season Five and promised a return to the early, arc-following roots of the show. Does this mean you'll stop imagining how exasperated Ted's poor kids must feel for being unwittingly roped in to hear the longest story ever told? We're guessing no.
The consistently stellar Paul Giamatti will be playing Soviet Union leader Nikita Khruschev in a slated HBO telepic about Khruschev's two-week tour of the U.S. during the height of the Cold War. And to lighten that previous sentence with a useless but still amusing bit of trivia, Khruschev apparently threw a bitch fit when he found out that, due to security issues, he couldn't visit Disneyland anymore as previously planned. Whether this or the Cuban Missile Crisis riled him up more is hard to say, but we're hoping petulant stomping of feet was involved in both.
The entertainment world was temporarily abuzz when it got wind that Troy Aikman, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, would be trading in his shoulder pads for dancing shoes to participate in the next season of Dancing with the Stars. That rumor was summarily quashed, however, when he denied his previous statement this afternoon. And to think that now, even celebrities are fueling gossip about their own lives. How will we ever know what's true and good anymore?
My, how the mighty have fallen -- Steve McPherson, ABC's entertainment chief, resigned from his executive position this week for reasons that are now revealed to stem from sexual harassment claims against him. Still waiting for the obnoxiously broadcast mea culpa that has become standard procedure to winning your way back into the public's good graces. (Letterman: 1, Tiger: -5)
As if it were humanly possible to be any more excited for Jersey Shore's Season 2 premiere tonight, the newest addition to the Season 3 cast has been unveiled: Deena Nicole. She's a Jersey girl, Snooki's close friend (so much can be gleaned from that fact alone) and is "f*cking classy" according to her MySpace page. We believe it.
