BLOGS
Today's stories involve people staying, people leaving and non-human things like show titles and plotlines either changing or... not changing. Suspenseful, I know.
Assuming you've been unconscious for the past 12 hours or been tragically deprived of Internet access, American Idol has jumped the shark and will have 2/3 of its judges (Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi, don't let the door hit ya on the way out) replaced with, supposedly, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Distractions from the actual contest in the form of J.Lo's booty and Tyler's gaping mouth (not necessarily due to the previous) are likely. (Get our more detailed take on these developments here.)
Rob Lowe has been cast as a series regular on the overlooked-and-underappreciated gem, Parks and Recreation, after appearing in guest spots of the show last season. Guess he didn't leave Brothers & Sisters for nothing.
TNT has renewed three of the network's hit series' for 2011 -- The Closer, Leverage and Rizzoli & Isles. Speaking of, can anyone else not take Rizzoli seriously as a detective because it sounds like her last name would be better suited for an overwrought pasta dish? Just me? Okay then.
In other Funny Names News, the joke goldmine that was Cougar Town's title is now a permanent misfortune. The show's executive producer never thought of a new one to more accurately capture the "dysfunctional-family comedy" direction it was headed in so the misleading, not to mention probably off-putting, moniker will stay.
No more season-long foes in Dexter; since the traumatic death by murder of his wife last season, the producers will be focusing on how Dex deals with these strangely human emotions of grief and despair rather than have him attempt to take down a bad guy at bay the entire time. A serial killer with a heart? Swoon -- my inexplicable crush on the intensely dark character just got more inexplicable.
Lee Majors from The Six Million Dollar Man and Kevin Sorbo from Hercules have been cast by Syfy in two of the network's upcoming shows that are loosely based on their real lives. I don't really have an opinion on any of the words I just wrote but it's nice to know Hercules has a job again.
