Well, let's be clear here: I'm not sure that any version of The View is necessary, and I'm not looking forward to CBS' clone (with Julie Chen) coming this fall, either. But what I definitely know is that there isn't a void in the TV landscape that needs to be filled by a panel of men discussing the issues of the day. However, Barbara Walters apparently disagrees.
That's right, the newswoman is working on an all-male version of The View, and on top of her rumored wish list is morning-talk veteran Bryant Gumbel. Can't wait to find out which intelligent and well-spoken fellas she finds to accompany him. I can only hope that it's guys who think before they speak like Elisabeth Hasselbeck does and are as book-smart as Sherri Shepherd.
But seriously, who has time to watch daytime talk shows at all, anyway? I only watch The View in online-soundbite form when there's a fight or they land a hot-button guest. Most of the men that I know already get their fix of politics, sports, news and entertainment from a variety of other established sources. Watching four or five random dudes butt heads on a new show doesn't sound enticing one bit.
Not only that, but don't male viewers already have Attack of the Show (for all geek talk), The Daily Show and Meet the Press (for politics), a million food shows, The Best Damn Sports Show Period and all the NFL pre-game programs (for sports) and Tosh.0 (for viral video goofs). Unless Barbara can assemble the dream lineup of Jon Stewart, Bill Simmons, Tracy Morgan, Anderson Cooper, Shaquille O'Neal and Daniel Tosh, who's going to watch this thing?
At this point, the only reason we can think of for this View spin-off to exist is because it might give SNL something to parody down the road. Actually... that might be reason enough.

There was a version, actually - and it blatantly labeled itself as the male version of "The View."
It was called "The Man Show." Otherwise known as Jimmy Kimmel's big break...
Didn't they try something like this with Danny Bonaduce and some other schmucks?
There's also Top Gear for cars (and inane stunts).
I would only watch it to read you make fun of it and/or if Babs can make your dream l ine-up come true.
I think Marissa is referring to The Other Half:

Hilarious!
It's probably gonna be like the "barbershop guys" on NPR. At least I hope.
I remember the Dick Clark rip off. It was pretty lame IIRC.
There's no reason for a female The View, let alone a male-oriented version.
Well, if it is on CBS and brought to us by BW, I wouldn't count on it being anything like anything on NPR.
The Daily Show is a "male" show? Are you kidding? Please come talk to the MANY female fans of the show before making such an ignorant statement.
I am not sure where you are getting your information, but great topic. I needs to spend some time learning more or understanding more. Thanks for excellent information I was looking for this information for my mission.
