The most pressing national matter of our time has yet to be resolved: when will Idol pick new judges and put us all out of our helplessly fascinated misery? It's now being reported that J.Lo was dropped because of her outrageous demands that included a $20 million+ salary and her own hair, make-up and styling team. Which part of you-are-no-longer-culturally-relevant-and-should-make-do-with-a-blowdryer has she failed to completely grasp?

Marching onward with singers (I use the term loosely) who start with the letter J that we'd really like to stop talking about, the one and thankfully only Justin Bieber wants a guest judging stint on Simon Cowell's The X-Factor when it's brought stateside. Upon what merits he believes he's qualified to discern vocal talent remain uncertain, but if we were to create a show to find the most permanently windswept hair in America, we'd let him take the reins.

AMC is now 5 for 5 in their pilots-turned-series ratio with their newest full series order announced for The Killing. Written and produced by Veena Sud, who previously produced Cold Case, the crime series will revolve around a young girl's murder and the investigation it prompts -- basically, it'll be laced with gritty thrills and be certifiably badass.

John Slattery, also known as Mad Men's Roger Sterling and, less notably, my second-favorite silver fox (top honors go to Anderson Cooper, understandably), directed this week's upcoming episode. He talks about the mental complexities of acting in a scene that he's simultaneously directing, and the difficulty of getting Lizzy Moss to concentrate. It's okay Peggy, we'd be distracted taking orders from Mr. Sterling, too.

And finally, excellent news for despondent Pushing Daisies fans! Bryan Fuller, the unjustifiably cancelled show's creator, has made a deal with Syfy to adapt science fiction novel The Lotus Caves for a TV series. The plot sounds bizarre and confusing, and I still don't really know what it's about... but I'm thrilled to pieces nonetheless! Join me in my unfounded exuberance, won't you?
