Modern Family gets more modern with a gay wedding and and a little unimaginative with Nathan Lane not-so-surprisingly playing a flamboyant character in its next season. Even less surprising may be the combination of things we can't stand about teenagers, as MTV's R.J. Berger and Justin Bieber unwelcomingly make their way into our news for today...
In addition to a gay wedding in the future for ABC's Modern Family, Nathan Lane will appear in Season 2 as Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell's (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) flamboyant friend Pepper... so basically a Birdcage character revival. I think his Broadway-sized personality might be a better fit on Glee among their more theatrical cast members, but I'm not surprised he's found his way into Cam and Mitch's lives.
Fans of sucky television rejoice, as MTV's The Hard Times of R.J. Berger gets a second season. It's been implied that the show's renewal may be thanks to the increase in ratings it received after Justin Bieber tweeted a seemingly carefully-typed approval of the show. Yet another reason for those of us who aren't prepubescent girls to despise the show.
Rumor has it (and no I'm not talking about the lamely titled movie, but rather its cheesy rom-com typecast lead actress) that Jennifer Aniston may guest star in an episode of former Friends co-star Courtney Cox's show Cougar Town. If this does happen, we're hoping it's less painful than her 30 Rock cameo (seriously, what was with the hats??) and doesn't leave us wishing we'd even rather see a David Schwimmer appearance. Perish the thought.
Speaking of 30 Rock, the NBC show has announced plans for a live episode during its fifth season. The cast will perform the episode twice -- separately for the East coast and West coast. As a show with a lot of ad-libbing already, I predict many unbleeped curse words by the cast (Tracy Morgan) among shouts of "blerg" and "nerds!"
Balthazar Getty, who plays Tommy Walker on ABC's Brothers & Sisters, will be leaving the series as it heads into its fifth season. Considering this news and Rob Lowe's departure, there really are very few reasons to watch the show (Dave Annable, Sally Field sometimes) and even those don't make up for Calista Flockhart still being on it.
Fox has pushed its Spielberg-produced dino-drama Terra Nova from mid-season to fall 2011. Set in prehistoric times, it focuses on a family that goes back in time and lives amongst the dinosaurs. Anyone else recalling ABC's short-lived 90's remake of Land of the Lost after that description?
The new cast for the next season of Dancing With The Stars will be revealed during an episode of Bachelor/Bachelorette spin-off Bachelor Pad, so another guilty pleasure-induced reason to watch the show that is sure to be a cornucopia of failed relationships, despite Chris Harrison's gloating.
