This show is hands down the biggest disappointment of the fall season. Not just because it is awful, which it is, but because I actually had high hopes due to its pedigree, which I guess makes me a fool. I even hoped that the additions of Robert Michael Morris and David Cross would help improve the unfunny pilot I screened earlier this summer. But no such luck. They didn't make things worse, but throwing more Arrested Development alumni into the mix only exacerbates the differences between that clever show and this subpar mess.
Former Arrested Development gurus Mitchell Hurwitz and Jim Vallely put their heads together and the best they could apparently come up with was a story about a rich egomaniac and an annoyingly principled environmentalist. And they somehow thought that casting Gob and Felicity as romantic characters was a great idea. There's like a germ of an interesting concept here, but Keri Russell and Will Arnett are painfully awkward together.
The producers are clearly trying to recapture some of what made their previous show so wonderful, but this just feels watered down. There's narration, but instead of a judgmental Ron Howard, it's an earnest young girl. There's a self-involved rich person who likes to drink, but he's far too nice to be Gangy. Instead of a rich guy on a Segway, here he's riding a tiny horse. Granted, the tiny horse is kind of the best thing about the show. But a treehouse is a poor substitute for a banana stand. And a sycophantic nanny is in no way as wonderful as a one-handed mother-worshiping son.
I suppose that there is a small chance that this show could improve, though with Keri Russell's character Emmy being so gratingly irksome, it seems unlikely. At least Michael Bluth was a likeable sort the majority of the time. There really needs to be someone human on this show -- someone who isn't totally a caricature -- and if that person is supposed to be the young Puddle, then she needs to be seen more often, and not just so food can be shoved into her face as a sight gag.
But honestly, even if David Cross's eco-terrorist decides that he wants to join the Blue Man Group instead of hanging out in the Amazon, and even if Puddle does become Michael (or at the very least George Michael), and even if Arnett and Russell magically develop chemistry, and even if the show somehow finds its groove and becomes laugh-out-loud funny and worthy of being watched over and over again on DVD, it will still be too late to save it. The superbly absurd Arrested Development had a hard time surviving on Fox and that series had the support of critics and a small, but loyal group of fans. This show hasn't exactly been well received by the TV community, and while the ratings aren't out yet, I'm guessing that the AD fans who had their fingers crossed that this would be their new must-quote show will likely tune out after a few episodes. Hard to believe how this show won't wind up getting cancelled by Fox by the end of the season... if not before. And this time, I can't really say that I'll blame them.

I disagree! I enjoyed the first episode, taking it with a grain of salt. I think setting up the premise caused Keri Russell's character to be frenzied, and the narration to be heavy-handed, sure. But cut it some slack! The humorous moments were very reminiscent of Arrested Development! There were times I laughed so hard I cried. I think it is terribly unfair to draw direct parallels to the AD characters, by the way. Y’all tried to do that between The Office and Parks & Recreation in its first season – comparisons that turned out incorrect, I might add. I’m totally willing and eager to give Running Wilde a chance.
The only thing I saw that was worse than "Running Wilde" was "Raising Hope." There were no laughs in either show.
My husband and I laughed at a few little bits here and there throughout the show, but the only time we laughed really hard was when Will Arnett said "I've made a huge mistake." A direct Arrested Development quote! So if the funniest things they can come up with are ripping off their own stuff, we'll just be going back to our AD DVDs.
I thought Will Arnett and Keri Russell were great together. Sitcom pilots are always a little weird because it’s less about the ongoing plot and more about setting everything up. It helps that Keri Russell is so hot!

I couldn't make it through the whole show it was so bad. While I love Will Arnett and the people behind Arrested Development I don't see this show lasting very long.
And I thought Raising Hope was okay. I am not about to schedule it on the DVR, but I would watch it again.
Gotta agree with Tom on this one. At least I made it all the way through Wilde. Raising Hope got the 'delete' on the DVR about 14 minutes in.
Sad, as I was a big Earl fan, and a bit AD fan. Oh well, I didn't need anymore shows clogging up my DVR.
I would watch David Cross do a lot of things, so if they incorporate him more (and they better) I'll stick around for awhile to see what happens.
Being a huge AD fan I'm willing to give this show some slack in the hopes it grows into something more substantial. But I did find Puddle to be amusing -- things like when she absent-mindedly started eating a leaf from a houseplant at the not-Gob's award banquet and when she excitedly ran off yelling, "I'm going to go get my thing!" denoting her lack of meaningful possessions cracked me up. But yeah, outside of that I was hoping for a bit more. Fingers crossed.
Yeah, this was bad. But Arrested Development is my favorite show, so I'm willing to give Running Wilde a chance...I don't have much hope, though. It's a shame.
This show was absolutely horrendous. This recap said everything about the show that I was thinking after watching it. I will give it one more try, but after the disastrous pilot, next week had better be something really special.
Yeah, the pilot sucked on ice. I don't know whether to blame Keri Russell, or the writing, or everyone involved except David Cross, for he is a magical leprechaun of magic, and can do no wrong.
If you want to expand your wardrobe Louis Vuitton bag, a bag to keep the style. This is the kind of case is now in vogue, but next year the show. Be careful not to spend too much money for a Louis Vuitton bag of fashion and probably not as much as in their pockets every day neutral.

Most of the reason I work out now is not for the external - it's for how I feel. I find working out gives me more energy. I started eight days after he was born.
