TV on DVD: Tuesday, September 21, 2010

So many new DVD sets! So little time/space! Barring our sudden ability to manipulate time and space, we're gonna do these rapid-fire style. Do not feel slighted, little DVD sets -- you are all important. To somebody.

Modern Family: The Complete First Season
Multiple Emmy Award-winning comedy. Three generations, three different households. A title that doesn't try too hard. Comedy gold.

Desperate Housewives: The Complete Sixth Season
Drea de Matteo as a fugitive, John Barrowman as an eco-terrorist and Julie Benz as a stripper make three compelling arguments to watch this season. Even if you're not desperate.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand - The Complete First Season
Those with blood and sand allergies should stay away. Also, this show was prepared on the same machinery as other shows containing pine nuts. So that's something else to look out for.

Castle: The Complete Second Season
I can't imagine living in a world without Nathan Fillion. It would just seem so... joyless?

30 Rock: Season Four
I work in 30 Rock, and I can't tell you how many times Tracy Morgan has walked through here dressed like a white woman. It's a wonder I get anything done!

Being Human: Season Two
In case you were operating under the conceit that being a vampire, ghost or werewolf is "fun," this British series about all three shows you that when you aren't making your own life miserable, others are willing to do the job for you. See below.

How I Met Your Mother: Season Five
No, they didn't find the mother this season. Yes, Barney and Robin dated, and it was awful. Sure, Ted was a douche. Okay, Jason Segel's hair didn't look too great for a lot of it. Still -- it's HIMYM. We can't stay mad for long.

Community: The Complete First Season
If we'd known that community college would have been this fun, with classes on learning to sail and pottery and extended paintball battles, I totally would have blown off barber college.

Also out this week:
Two and a Half Men: The Complete Seventh Season Face it, it's about three men. The dude is, like, 27.
The Mentalist: The Complete Second Season A mentalist.
The Hills: Season Six Some hills, geographical and anatomical.
Human Target: The Complete First Season People acting like targets.
Law & Order: SVU - Year 11 Law. Order. Some special victims.
Hell's Kitchen: Season 3 Raw & Uncensored A kitchen like unto Hell.
Bored to Death: The Complete First Season Bored people investigating crimes, doing drugs.
Taggart: Set 3 Definitely not a guy named Taggart. He's dead.

On iTunes: Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8
These motion comics that continue the Buffy saga where the TV show left off won't be on DVD until January, so gauge your own ability to wait that long. The books are also available, if you're into that sort of thing. ...You know, reading.
