BLOGS
The first, very short, season of Sister Wives is over. It did succeed in answering a lot of the questions we had after watching the premiere, though we're still not so sure why these women seem to think Kody is such a catch... or how they're at all able to support themselves. But still, it was an interesting show that had us hooked from the beginning. Here's our look back the moments that stood out the most for us from the last month. Mostly they are things that caused Kody, who is a massive tool, the most amount of pain.
Kody Kissed a Girl... and the Wives Didn't Like It
There are a lot of sensitive issues about dating and bringing a new sister wife into the fold. Robyn's appearance in their lives rubbed the women the wrong way, especially when they found out he'd sealed their engagement with a kiss. Kissing a married man is apparently not cool if you aren't married to him as well. That makes total sense. Robyn's a total trollop! Kody, being a man, is of course beyond reproach on this issue.
Hooray for Double Standards!
During Meri and Kody's anniversary dinner, she tried to express how she was feeling about a fourth wife being added to the mix. Kody brushed off her concerns until she dared to ask how he'd feel if the shoe was on the other foot. Then she basically called him on how it was a total double standard for him to have three wives and at the same time get all up in arms at the mere mention of her kissing a hypothetical other guy. That's why Meri is our favorite wife.
Give Him a Head With Hair
Sure Kody has those long greasy locks that he shows off, but one of the best moments was when we saw photos of his bald family and he pulled back his tresses to reveal his rapidly receding hair line. We can only imagine that next season will involve him calling the Hair Club for Men. And getting a haircut. We hope.
Yeah... She's Our Sister... That's the Ticket
We didn't get to see all that much of how the outside world reacted when the sister wives went out together, but when the three wives went to a jewelry store to buy Robyn a Claddagh ring the rightly inquisitive sales clerk was like, is this for your sister's birthday? Yeah... something like that. The only thing that made this moment better was the fact that the ladies opted for the cheapest option available -- not because they totally hate the younger, prettier model that they have to share their husband with or anything. No, the cheaper ring just had "more detailing." Sure it did.
See, We Learned Something
Before this show, we didn't know that there was a whole niche world of polygamist service providers. Need an architect to design a home for multiple wives? They've got that. A special school that doesn't involve prying questions? They've got that too. Even wedding photographers for your special occasion... or eight.
Multiple Wives? Yes. Ménage a Trois? Hell, No!
Quite possibly the most quotable moment of the season was when the wives were explaining that they do all have sex with Kody, just not all at the same time. "We don't do weird," Meri plainly put it. Aww, Meri. If you were only slightly less sheltered you'd know that threesomes are far more accepted in modern society than polygamy is.
Welcome Home, Mom! Oh... Hi Dad.
When Meri and Kody went on their trip to Mexico to celebrate their anniversary, they returned home to a warm family welcome... for her. Kody didn't get the "we missed you" reception that she did, and made sure to point that out to anyone who was listening. We just laughed at the fact that he was being ignored since he clearly thrives on attention. All that after having Meri shoot down his suggestion for having another kid via in vitro fertilization. We just love it when he doesn't get his way.
And Now He's a Fashion Taste Maker, Too... But Still Clueless
Robyn was being coy about her wedding dress, totally keeping it a secret until the big day. This seemed like a sweet gesture... until Kody made a big deal of announcing (during one of their "cozy" couch interview sessions) that he had actually picked out her dress. First, why should he get to be involved in that? That's her job. So, stop. Also, it ticked off the other wives, mostly Christine, who was hurt that he had taken so little interest in her wedding gown. Yikes. This is thin ice he's skating on, and we just love to see him falter.
It's Like Rain on Your Wedding Day
Robyn's wedding day nearly got rained out, and while we still don't understand why she needed such a big to-do considering that she was the fourth wife, had already been married before and that two of the others had barely had receptions, we enjoyed a bit of schadenfreude at the mere thought of a torrential downpour mussing Kody's hair. It didn't rain, but all of their families refused to be put on camera and presumably either didn't show up, or were forced to hide in the corners while the cameras showed off their wedding for the masses. It is just really such a special day that way.
