Today's TWoP News: October 1, 2010

Inside every movie star is an idea for a great TV show. And inside Snooki is a lonely heart.

In the best news we've heard all week, Jersey Shore's Snooki will get her own dating show on MTV. The title isn't mentioned, but we'll assume this is the Snookin' for Love everyone's been talking about. Because when you have a title that good, you pretty much have to create a show to go with it.

This news item is a double-edged sword -- sure, you'll learn about the cooking show being developed by Lou Diamond Phillips, but you'll also be overcome by a ravenous hunger for his signature ribs.

First, there was Parenthood, then True Lies, and then Goodfellas. Now, Will Smith is adapting his movie Hitch into a TV series, too. Hey, at least it's from the past decade.

Jennifer Lopez is continuing her assault on television with a TV series on ABC about three generations of Latina nannies called Nannyland. It's described as a mix of Modern Family and Maid in Manhattan. Great -- something we already have and something we don't want.

The CW is developing a game show called The Frame, in which teams of two are placed in small, confined spaces and forced to compete in challenges against each other. So, basically, it's The Amazing Race, with no racing and done on the smallest budget possible? Sounds like Emmy material!

Looking forward to next week's religious-themed episode of Glee? Well, then, you may want to hear all of the episode's music in advance here, plus another track of Finn singing "Losing My Religion" here. Let the boycotts begin!

In sad news, Stephen J. Cannell, producer of such hit TV series as 21 Jump Street, The A-Team and The Rockford Files (and The Commish, Profit, Hardcastle & McCormick, The Greatest American Hero, Black Sheep Squadron and others) has passed away. While he left behind some great television, he was also a successful novelist, and appeared on Castle as himself in that capacity. Of course, to us, he'll always be the bad guy on Renegade, starring Lorenzo Lamas.
