Life Unexpected Questions We Want Answered Before It's Gone

It was reported the other day that The CW was only going to give Life Unexpected 13 episodes for its sophomore season, which makes the chances for a third season fairly slim. As viewers of this guilty pleasure, we just hope that the show will answer several burning questions for us while they still have time. No, not whether Cate and Baze end up together (we don't care), but the really important stuff.

Why would Nate choose to be called Baze?
I get that his last name is Basile and so, in that grand guy tradition, that became his nickname but at some point, like during job interviews, isn't it time to ditch the moniker? Plus, Baze just sounds moronic. There's nothing wrong with Nate.

Could Emma Caulfield really not find anything better?
I'm actually really glad that Baze has stopped mooning over Cate and started dating his boss, played by the former Buffy star, but I just wish she could've found a more worthier vehicle. And the show hasn't even had the decency to have her scream when she saw a bunny in the woods during the camping trip episode.

Why does Lux insist on wearing those stupid hats?
She's a cute girl with pretty hair. Why cover it up and purposefully look stupid? If it's supposed to be a fashion statement, I don't get it. Maybe she's got a secret bald spot?

Why is she still called Lux?
Yeah, yeah, some nurse gave her the name because it means light, but it's pretty weird nonetheless. Wouldn't she have been desperate to get it changed by the courts when she turned 16, along with getting legally emancipated?

Why are Cate and Ryan are considered "famous"?
They just host a local morning show (or at least Ryan still does., when he's not busy chaperoning and fighting with Cate) so why do they always get picked to be the so-called celebrity hosts at events? Unless you're talking about Howard Stern and Ryan Seacrest, who knows (or cares) about their hometown radio personalities? Would either Cate or Ryan really be an acceptable substitute for a pro athlete at a charity golf event?

Why doesn't Lux's friend style her hair differently?
Tyra's been trying to teach me to be more tolerant of those with big foreheads, but Lux's friend Tasha has the most unflattering hairstyle for her features. Those too-darkly dyed tresses are a problem and the girl could really use some bangs because she looks like she's about 15 years older than Lux.

Why would someone named Matthew allow themselves to be called Math?
At first we thought that Math was a cute nickname because he was a nerdy math teacher, but it turned out that he's an English teacher and that his full name is Matthew. Does everyone in this town just like ridiculous nicknames? It's silly. At some point, Matt might have been a better option.

Why doesn't Baze have any other friends besides Math?
Baze is a charming enough guy, he ran a bar for awhile, he's a former athlete, he lives like a frat boy... so how does he only have one friend on the planet? This affable dude should have an entourage of guys hanging out and drinking with him every night. One nerdy guy is his only friend? Did he do something to piss everyone else off?

Who thought we'd want to see Lux hook up with her teacher? Who greenlit this storyline? Can that person appear during a commercial break and apologize? Sure, that dude from Melrose Place 2.0 is cute, but couldn't that character just have been a more age-inappropriate college kid? The whole student-teacher thing has been done on TV so many times (and by superior programs, like Pretty Little Liars).

Did Bug ever find someone tolerable to date?
I wonder about Bug a lot. Despite his unfortunate name, he was actually kind of a fun character. I often wish we could have followed him when he hit the road. I think he'd have much more exciting adventures than Lux.

Why did Ryan ever find Cate appealing?
Their marriage is constantly in trouble because neither of them discussed any important information about their lives, their pasts, their future or their hopes or dreams beforehand. But what kept them together for the three years before the wedding? Will it turn out that Ryan's really an alien and that Cate's constant whining distracts any threats to his existence?

I never watched this show past the pilot, mainly because I don't hate myself, but seriously, who came up with all these names? Baze, Lux, Math, Bug? Why would someone choose to run with that awful theme? I wouldn't be surprised if a member of the writing team let their 3-year-old pick the names using alphabetti spaghetti.

I was so annoyed when they referenced Roswell, and not Buffy. When Emma Caulfield said his type was someone who 'looked like that girl from Roswell' I was expecting a, 'And what's your type? A pirate?'
And I looooove the Lux/Teacher storyline, and I usually hate them. I hated the one on PLL. Mainly because 'Ezra' creeps me out and was not attractive, and Shaun Sipos is. My god. He is the best thing about the new season.
I'm kinda sad that it's going to be over, and I do hope that Cate and Baze get together, just because I can't stand Ryan.

Well, "Math" was a pretty importent Celtic god. Their equivalent of Zeus.

I don't see a problem of believability with the level of fame Cate and Ryan have. I haven't seen every episode, but I don't think anything they've done is out of the realm of what radio personalities would appear at. They've done a singles night promotion at Baze's bar, a wedding expo type event and a music festival. All par for the course for radio personalities. Outside of NY and LA, and perhaps Miami, local media and local athletes tend to be the "celebrities" at these events. I live in Chicago, a fairly world class city, and our radio personalities do all sorts of appearances. I can imagine the same being true for whatever city this takes place in.

Actually the reference to Roswell was pretty funny because Shiri Appleby starred in that show. It was a nice dig at saying his type was Cate without saying it, while also tossing in an inside joke. This is one of those guilty pleasure fluff shows that should just be allowed to stay because honestly, what kind of crap is the CW going to replace it with?? And yeah, I never saw the Cate/Ryan attraction. They have zero chemistry.

"And the show hasn't even had the decency to have her scream when she saw a bunny in the woods during the camping trip episode."

Why would she? I mean, considering how she is playing a character who isn't Anya...stupid geek.

I will admit, the names are just grating...Lux, Baze, Math, Bug...it'd be acceptable if *one* person had a weird nickname, or this was a quirky town like the one in Gilmore Girls, but I guess in the world of Life Unexpected, having weird names is the norm...

I started watching the show because I thought it was about a parent-child relationship. Turns out it's about incompatible and/or inappropriate romances that we all know would never work, but still gets our attention. In a sneaky way. I used to think I couldn't watch any more episodes because it makes me cry -- now it still makes me cry, but in a bad way.

Baze does too have friends. Like that random guy who there was no real explanation for who he was or why he was there. And Ryan.

I guess they couldn't have guys night with just Baze and Math.

his is one of those books a lot of people with a background in graphics design loves. I think the language is way too exaggerated for a person without a graphics design background.

Thanks for this article. I would also like to convey that it can be hard if you find yourself in school and merely starting out to initiate a long credit rating. There are many scholars who are simply trying to make it through and have a long or positive credit history can often be a difficult thing to have.
