The Larry Sanders Show: The Complete Series
The seminal fake television show is back, with Garry Shandling as a self-absorbed talk show host, Jeffrey Tambor as his Ed McMahon and dozens of special guests playing themselves, long before they did so on Entourage or Extras or Curb Your Enthusiasm. The 17-disc, six-season, 89-episode set includes a documentary hosted by Greg Kinnear, an interview with Shandling and writer Judd Apatow about the writing process and Shandling's introduction and personal visits with guests. Doubles as paperweight.
Legends of the Super Heroes
It's 1960s Justice League madness! In this TV classic dug out of the Warner Bros. archives, Adam West and Burt Ward's Batman and Robin team up with other heroes of the DC Universe -- many appearing in live-action for the first time ever -- for two hilarious (for the time) superhero specials, with deleted scenes. See Green Lantern before Ryan Reynolds, the Flash before John Wesley Shipp, and Solomon Grundy... uh, cleverly disguised as a gas station attendant. Hawkman really needs to brush up on his bad guys.
V: The Complete First Season
There's something to be said for a show where the best thing that happens is that someone kills thousands of babies. Still, it'd better pick up the pace and drop the politeness -- more baby deaths, please.
The Pacific
I suggested they call this series Band of Brothers From Another Mother, but was told it would be disrespectful. I can see that.
Deadliest Catch: Season 6
Look, it's a dangerous show, all right? They can't really spell it out for you much more than they have already. Watch at your own risk, people.
Hannah Montana: Who Is Hannah Montana?
Finally, the answer to the age-old question! We're down to two possibilities: Miley Cyrus or Andy Serkis. Our money's on Serkis -- the man's a gifted performer!
My Super Psycho Sweet 16: Part Two
Halloween may be over, but now you can make the made-for-teen-TV horror last all year long! Warning: Not much scarier than an actual episode of My Super Sweet 16.
Doctor Who: Revenge of the Cybermen and Silver Nemesis
Considering how long he's been fighting these guys, the Doctor may want to invest in some Old Glory Robot Insurance.
Also out this week: Flipping Out: Season One, Nip/Tuck: The Complete Series, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List - Season Two, Beverly Hills, 90210: The Tenth and Final Season, Beverly Hills, 90210: The Complete Series, The Fugitive: The Fourth and Final Season - Vol. 1, Mad About You: The Complete Fifth Season, The Facts of Life: The Complete Fifth Season, Midsomer Murders: Village Case Files (Sets 9-12).
