BLOGS
In most of the United States, this is the weekend that Daylight Savings Time forces us to switch our clocks back an hour. For many folks, that just means getting an extra hour of sleep. But we think that TV fans could make use of those bonus sixty minutes in more productive ways. Here are our top recommendations to choose from:
10. Ensure You Can Avoid 60 Minutes
Finally set your DVR to buffer at least an extra half hour of The Amazing Race so that you can skip the portions of 60 Minutes that inevitably cut into the episodes because of football overruns. You know you've been meaning to do that for ages.
9. Watch The Walking Dead
The show just started, so you haven't missed much. Get caught up before the new episode airs... though it is slightly longer than an hour even with fast-forwarding, there a few slow patches that you can speed through to get it down to 60 minutes. Or you could read our recap and then spend the rest of the hour wondering if you'll be stuck legless and without most of a torso pulling yourself across the lawn when the zombie-pocalypse hits.
8. Plan A Trip to Canada for Caprica
A channel in Canada called Space is airing the remaining episodes of the now cancelled Caprica that we aren't getting here until some nebulous time in 2011. So spend that extra hour getting ready to head up north to see how this whole crazy Cylon thing plays out. Sigh, it was just getting really good.
7. Get Out Your Buffy Season 5 DVDs
To get over the sight of Nicholas Brendon playing a rapist on Private Practice, you might want to rewatch "The Replacements" for double the adorable Xander goodness. We're all for showing acting range, but you don't want to have nightmares about Xander, do you?
6. Get a Clue, Watch Sherlock
All you Doctor Who fans should seek out the Masterpiece Mystery episodes of Sherlock airing on PBS. It's from the writers of Who including Steven Moffat, and it stars Martin Freeman from the superior Office. Not elementary, just brilliant.
5. Give Cougar Town A Chance
If you wrote this sitcom off after the first few episodes last season, you've been missing out. Check out our reasons for loving the show, then watch this week's episode below. "Who is Keyser Soze?" is suddenly relevant again.
4. Start an Online Parks & Recreation Petition
The show is supposed to be back midseason, but now that Outsourced is doing mind-bogglingly well, we're worried about the future of Parks & Recreation. Demand your right to have Ron Swanson on your TV, and stat.
3. Watch an Episode of Terriers
This series is so good and we'd hate to see it go the way of all the other brilliant but cancelled shows of yore. It's a quality show, one of the best of the fall, and also fills the void that Veronica Mars left in our lives.
2. Watch Community's Halloween Episode Twice
It was so off the wall and outrageous, it'll take you at least two viewings to soak in all the details carefully woven through this zombie spree set to the music of ABBA.
1. Clean Out Your DVR
Still have all of those episodes of Lone Star, Undercovers or anything else you recorded with the optimistic hope of eventually watching? Don't bother. The shows are done so might as well clear out the hard drive now. As for anything that you've been saving from over a season ago... well, that's what Netflix was invented for.
