December 2010 Archives
It's been quite some time since I was actually still thinking about an SNL episode two days after it aired. Not just one funny sketch, but a whole episode. And while I'm not going to say that every sketch was a winner, there were some pretty amusing things, and even the lame sketches weren't as bad as some of the ones earlier this season, so good for SNL. Way to end the year on a high note, though I presume this means that the next three episodes will suck since they used all the good material here. Whatever, I'll take the funny where I can get it. I could have lived without the general store (though Jeff Bridges' hair made up for a lot of lame jokes), Jeff's prank show (though again, Bridges' enthusiasm helped), the Hanukkah It's a Wonderful Life (not as funny as the Vincent Price sketches) and Brad Pitt doing the weather. But there was Stefon, a catchy Lonely Island song, Miley and Julian Assange and bonus Cookie Monster!
Will Smith may actually be working on a TV project that won't involve placing his kids in it, and another probably-painful series about a strong-willed career woman from Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, in today's news...
Out with the old, in with the new.
This week kicked off the start of awards season with nominations being announced by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for their Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild for their SAG Awards. And while there were some shockers in the television categories (Piper Perabo?! Hot in Cleveland?!!), there were also a lot of old standbys, meaning that many deserving shows and actors got left out in the cold. Here are the most egregious snubs from both awards bodies:
Mmmmm... Trump roast.
We're still not over the shock of Piper Perabo getting nominated for a Golden Globe, and yet we already have to move on to make sense of some very confusing Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Yes, we understand that these awards recognize the cast of actors and not necessarily the show as a whole, but there are some truly baffling choices here.
Now, imagine this was a bloody railroad! Sounds amazing, right?!
"Golden Globe nominee Piper Perabo." Let that soak in.
It's the most wonderful time of the year. No, not the holidays, but the start of awards season, and today's announcement of the Golden Globes nominations were the kickoff. (Loved Katie Holmes' hair!) But did the Hollywood Foreign Press Association finally see fit to show some love to Friday Night Lights, Sons of Anarchy and Community? Find out, and get our initial take on who and what got nominated and what got snubbed.
Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go, I wanna Season 8 it. Nothing to do, nowhere to go, I'm gonna Season 8 it.
