Americans watched a lot of TV in 2010, and Fox has bought (another) blue-collar comedy from Curb Your Enthusiasm's J.B. Smoove. Today's news lacks any and all surprises...
According to Nielsen, Americans watched more TV in 2010 than ever before. Aside from the most obvious realization ever, it's a nice feeling to know you're not alone. It also goes to show that, despite some horrifically disappointing options (Sister Wives, $#*! My Dad Says, etc.), TV isn't on the same deathbed as the newspaper industry. But thanks for the source, NYTimes.com!
Fox is currently developing a blue-collar comedy (because Raising Hope wasn't enough of an attempt?) starring Curb Your Enthusiasm's J.B. Smoove. It will focus on a recently-divorced father who has to move into his parents' basement due to the economy. Sounds like a real (not-at-all depressing) knee-slapper.
In contrast to that finding, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report may be streamed on Hulu again after being pulled earlier in the year due to a lack of agreement regarding a payment deal. If Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's character can compromise on a hybrid of the Rally to Restore Sanity and March to Keep Fear Alive (resulting in Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear), then surely Hulu can agree to a new deal.
While Ray Chew has been hired as the new band director, American Idol has decided to replace the band's occupied area of the stage with audience members. First replacing a couple of the judges, then replacing the band on stage... now all Fox has to do is replace the entire show itself, and we've got ourselves a hit.
The newly-created position of VP original programming, filled by former Discovery executive Rachel Smith, is a sign of a move towards original programming for BBC America. Now if they can only get every other American channel to stop trying to forcefully adapt all of the significantly-better British versions of successful TV shows...
