Today's TWoP News: January 4, 2011

Toni Braxton gets her own reality show, and Gwyneth Paltrow is set to host Saturday Night Live, making today's news full of both singers and wannabe singers...

Gwyneth Paltrow will be hosting the January 15th episode of Saturday Night Live with musical guest Cee Lo Green. Fingers crossed she doesn't get on stage with him while he's performing to reenact her Glee cameo. Just because you're married to the frontman of Coldplay, star as a country singer in what looks like a big-budget Lifetime movie, and sang with Huey Lewis in Duets doesn't make you a singer, but rather someone who chooses bad acting roles (and baby names).

E! has greenlit reality series The Dance Scene about Lady Gaga's choreographer Laurieann Gibson mentoring other choreographers and dancers on their way to fame. Hopefully it won't be as terrible as the movie based on her life, Honey, though it's being produced by Ryan Seacrest, so I don't doubt it.

Singer Toni Braxton will be getting her own reality show on WE titled Braxton Family Values, which will follow her life as a singer/songwriter along with her four sisters (Traci, Towanda, Trina and Tamar) who apparently are all aspiring singers as well. And here I thought the Kardashian sisters had the worst sibling names ever.

WE has also announced their new show Staten Island Cakes, about a young, sought-after cake maker, Vinny Buzzetta, and his obnoxiously loud Staten Island family. Nothing at all like Cake Boss, which is about a young, sought-after cake maker and his obnoxiously loud Italian family in NJ. The network has also launched their new tagline, "Life As WE Know It." I guess "Life As WE Know Other People Do It" was too wordy.

Roger Ebert has chosen AP critic Christy Lemire and young contributing MUBI.com writer Ignatiy Vishnevetsky as co-hosts for his revamped version of At the Movies. If it's as mildly entertaining as Ebert's Twitter feed, it should be worth checking out.

ABC Studios has signed an overall deal with Life Unexpected creator Liz Tigelaar to develop new series, as well as possibly work on existing series for the network. I hope the deal included not bothering to revive Life Unexpected on ABC after the show's soon-to-be demise.

Fox is developing a medical drama with Warren Leight, the showrunner from FX's new series Lights Out. He'll be writing and producing the show, which will focus on medical ethics. A medical drama that doesn't have Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes's name attached? I'm already significantly more interested.
