Starting somewhere in its second season, Parks and Recreation became one of the best sitcoms on TV. Leslie Knope, Ron Swanson and the whole department went from being vague ideas of characters to fully realized people, each with their own stories and agendas. Everyone, that is, but Ann Perkins.
I love Ann (and, by extension, Rashida Jones). She is a fun, smart person, but as much as it seems like she is trying to figure herself out, so am I. Other than she's a nurse, we know almost nothing about her. Does she have family? What does she want out of life? How did she even end up in Pawnee? Without these or most any other detail about her, it's no wonder that she starts to sound like Sam Seaborn when she orders food. And ever since they filled the pit, she's become mostly a foil for Leslie. Now, I don't want her to disappear, but I just think that Ann could be way more interesting on another show. Here are some places Ann might want to move to before I start saying "Her?" every time she appears on screen:
Pasadena, California (Brothers and Sisters)
Heading out west just might do Ann some good, even if she encounters the family of her recent ex (or at least someone who looked suspiciously like him). She might even end up working at the same hospital as Justin, whose relationship with Rebecca probably won't last now that actress Emily VanCamp is leaving the series.
Lima, Ohio (Glee)
Just moving one state over, she might be able to find work as the nurse at William McKinley High School. (After all, Terri Schuester's stint in the position was a disaster.) She could start a fight against obesity in the school, which we know she cares about, and work as sort of a neutral player in the battles between Will and Sue.
Albuquerque, New Mexico (Breaking Bad)
Let's face it, Ann needs some excitement in her life, and Jesse would probably like to spend time with someone who is totally unaware of his connections to drugs and crime. Besides, Breaking Bad could really use a female character who isn't unlikeable in almost every way.
London, England (Doctor Who)
Maybe while take a trip around Europe to find herself, a chance encounter with the Doctor could lead Ann to become one of the few Americans to spend any time in the TARDIS. Her relationship with the Doctor would be more Donna than Amy, but the 11th Doctor would enjoy a companion he has to talk into things.
Berkeley, California (Parenthood)
We know that Ann is some kind of nurse, but for all we know she could also have training in children with learning disabilities and developmental disorders. Assuming that, she could easily replace Gaby as the hot girl working with Max.
Portland, Oregon (Portlandia)
Having dated Andy for so long, she would easily be able to put up with the locals. Besides, as the most rational person in the city, she might suddenly find that her previous involvement with local politics could open up a new career path for her.
