Sure. Try it without Helen Mirren. Can't see what could possibly be wrong with that.
Busy NBC day, with news on about 78 (approximately) different developing projects. Most notable is their Prime Suspect adaptation, which is going to pilot with Peter Berg as EP. Also going to pilot: The Crossing, a Civil War drama about a wanderer who settles into a town only to be welcomed as their savior against his will (which is almost exactly the plot of that awful Kevin Costner movie The Postman, incidentally); REM, an "Inception-style thriller" (whatever that means) about a cop straddling two different realities; Free Agents, another U.K. adaptation and a single camera romantic sitcom about co-workers in love from Party Down co-creator Jon Enbom; LoveLives, a multi-camera (ugh) comedy about a couple exploring cheating on each other, and an untitled Dan Goor (Parks & Rec and Late Night with Conan writer) project about a doctor who joins his parents' medical practice and the ensuing hilarity of it all. I'm exhausted now. Moving on and leaving you to be outraged about U.K. adaptations on your own.
Lauren Conrad's upcoming MTV docu-drama has been rejected by the network for being "too high-brow," according to how her people are spinning it. Obviously that means it was boring and she just wasn't fighting with anyone, but she's all scorned and releasing statements about how MTV looks down on their viewers, or whatever. She really should have brought the drama if she expected her reality show to be picked up (this ain't her first time at the rodeo), but... eh, she's kind of got a point.
The Walking Dead seems to be foregoing their original plan of having only freelance writers next season, as showrunner Frank Darabont has hired The Shield (and Hawthorne and Crash, though no one seems to want to discuss that bit) veteran Glen Mazzara to be his "No. 2" and tasked him to put together a staff of five more writers. This could bode well for the show's lack of action -- you see that time Vaughn got run over by a car while he was eating a burrito on Hawthorne? I'd happily watch that happen to just about anybody on The Walking Dead. Yes I would.
Mitch Hurwitz says the Arrested Development movie might come out this year. Yeah. I know.
Jesse McCartney has joined Fox's Locke & Key, playing Ty, the eldest of the Locke children. And the mysterious Summerland gainful employment machine kept a-churnin'...
And despite how much the producers reportedly hated making the first season, Top Chef: Just Desserts got renewed! Zac, Yigit and Seth 2.0s, I don't know who you are yet, but I know I love you.
