Today's TWoP News: February 7, 2011

Today we learn just how successful Simon Cowell expects his new music competition to be.

Today it was announced that The X Factor will be giving away a record deal prize worth five million dollars. This is kind of insane. Not only is this the biggest prize ever guaranteed on television, it might be the most desperate attempt by Simon to destroy the record industry since Clay Aiken.

Connie Britton, i.e. Tami Taylor, is said to be working with David O. Russell (director of The Fighter on a show for FX. While details seem nonexistent right now, just the fact that Britton might have something awesome on her plate is good news.

Ilene Chaiken, the creator of The L Word will be working as executive producer on the upcoming CBS show Hail Mary. The show is about a single mother and a street hustler who solve crimes, and now I guess one of them is a lesbian.

As if you didn't already know deep in your little Gleeky hearts, Gwyneth Paltrow will be returning to Glee. The real news here is just how Ryan Murphy plans to do a show about sex ed when he thinks 7-year-olds watch the show.

Regis says he isn't leaving until November now. His reasons for staying on past the summer include allowing the producers to organize a proper sendoff. Does it really take that long to order an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins?

Nia Vardalos will be on Cougar Town. Vardalos is best known for her movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding and is married to Ian Gomez who plays Andy on the show. Unless you just got here from 2002, I doubt you really care, but it feels like a slow news day.
