TWoP 10: Actors Who Should Return to Their Shows

The internet recently went wild with the news that Michael Rosenbaum (a.k.a. Lex Luthor) would be returning to Smallville for the season finale. Now, for the first time in years, we're genuinely excited about an episode of that show. So with that in mind, we got to thinking about some other actors and actresses who we wish would find their way back to their former series for at least a guest appearance, even if they've already moved on to new roles.

10. Joe Manganiello, How I Met Your Mother
He's currently giving a hair-raising performance as Alcide on True Blood, but that's a summer show and we need a year-round Manganiello fix. Particularly since this former pal of Marshall's was one of the few friends outside the regular group we actually liked. Hey, he even took a punch in the face from Barney! If he can survive that, a return trip to MacLaren's should be no problem.

9. Mandy Patinkin, Criminal Minds
When last we saw Patinkin's Jason Gideon, he had taken off after a tough case, leaving his badge at a cabin. It's been years since then, so he should be done with his soul-searching or whatnot by now. Let him come back so we can at least get some resolution on what happened with the character. Or bring him back for a tough case that only he can crack.

8. Jennifer Morrison, House
We haven't seen Cameron since she returned to Princeton-Plainsboro to get her divorce papers signed by Chase (and subsequently had some breakup sex with him) and that's a shame. Perhaps some hospital higher-up will finally see how wildly inappropriate House and Cuddy's relationship is and hire back Cameron to take over Cuddy's job, especially now that she's got more backbone than when she temporarily took the gig the first time.

7. Yin Chang, Gossip Girl
Much as we'd love to see the crazypants known as Georgina Sparks again, we most desperately miss Nelly Yuki. Could she get a job at W and make Blair's life a nightmare? Or something? Anything? This show is in desperate need of an injection of some truly cliquey behavior. It's been a while.

6. Stephen Tobolowsky, Glee Sandy Ryerson sure was fun -- until they completely forgot about this possible child molester/avid shopper/musical theater maniac/drug dealer. So much potential, and we're still curious about exactly why he was in Rachel's "Run, Joey, Run" video. What's the story there?

5. Eric Millegan, Bones
Zack's technically still institutionalized after that whole accessory-to-murder thing that baffled us and mostly soured us on the entire show. But every once and a while, he pops up in a flashback or in a fantasy sequence. We'd like to see some more of that so we can remember Zack as a sweet guy instead of as a serial killer's right hand man.

4. Dean Winters, 30 Rock
Because you can never get enough of New York's last beeper salesman. He's gross, kind of a mess and a complete manchild. We're still not sure why Liz Lemon doesn't think that qualifies as good dating material.

3. Paula Abdul, American Idol
Live to Dance is presumably dead, so Paula needs something to before she starts collecting MC Skat Kats and giving them all cute names and ending up on Celebrity Animal Hoarders or something. Let her come back to Idol as a guest judge, because while it was disgusting to see her and Simon playfight, it would be a whole new level of horrifying to watch her in a diva-off with J.Lo while trying to flirt with Steven Tyler. And by horrifying, we mean awesome. (No, she's not officially an "actor" like everyone else on this list, but we would like to think that her on-screen persona is at least a little exaggerated. For her sake and ours.)

2. Dana Delany , Desperate Housewives
Katherine Mayfair was possibly one of the best things to happen to this show in a long time and, of course, just when things got interesting, she up and moved off Wisteria Lane. Her ostensible reason was that she was running away with her lesbian stripper girlfriend Robin, but really, she left for Paris because she was afraid of the judgmental Housewives. Hopefully, by now she's learned to stand up to those bitches and can come back.

1. Bryan Batt, Mad Men
God, we miss Mr. Salvatore Romano. When he was fired from Sterling Cooper for not having sex with a client, it really sucked all around. We wish that he and his adorable little beard of a wife could find a way to return to the show so they can host many more intensely awkward dinner parties. Perhaps Sal could get a job at another agency and have a run-in with Don? Or maybe he could crash Don's sure-to-be horrible wedding.

Completely agree with Sal at number, one, but at number two should be Michael Gladis, who played Paul Kinsey on Mad Men. His pretentious douchiness was greatly missed. "I'm Peggy Olsen and I want Paul Kinsey back!!!!"

Going to have to disagree about Patinkin. Him leaving was one of the best things that happened to Criminal Minds. Bring back AJ Cook instead.

Cameron was my favorite character on House, and the show lost something when they nixed her, but I really think there's no going back for that show. With that in mind, I think Jennifer Morrison is better off staying far far away.

Agree on #1, but to say Cameron was a favorite at TWOP is revisionist history at its worst. Go back and read the recaps, maybe she's just favorably remembered compared to Thirteen...

Is this a joke? No offense to Dana Delany, as she is a talented actress, but she is definitely far from the best thing to happen to DH. Her fourth season storyline had such potential for excellent flashback involvement, but immediately went downhill after it was introduced. How many times did Katherine say, "You're just looking for dirt," to the other housewives? Not to mention, she was a poor man's version of Bree. After that, the writers had no idea what to do with her, for example: let's make her a lesbian! The show currently has entirely too many characters that its trying to give solid storylines to, so she made the wise choice to move on.

Big big YES to Jennifer Morrison! Although I sort of wish she doesn't have to come back to the mess House is now, she deserves better.

Actually I wish 'Torchwood' would return to Torchwood because that thing that they're doing now... I don't even care to think what's supposed to be :(

Can I be paid too, to say JENNIFER MORRISON IS NOT GOOD AS AN ACTRESS AS LISA EDELSTEIN, and she will never be, not even if she'll try for all her life, and she was the WEAK one in the House staff???????????????

C'mon! You're a fake blogger, and a fake fan (since you're simply a huddy hater), try with another job, please!

Sometimes I think it was all Fox's ploy to ship Jennifer Morrison to a rivaling network. She has unparalleled ability to make her characters annoying. Also Shore said in some Canadian interview that they abandoned House/Cameron romantic line because Hugh Laurie didn't feel he had any chemistry with her. Either way, not missing her.

Bullsh*t! Cite your source, or it isn't true.

Hugh and Jennifer had tremendous chemistry, more than your silly ship could ever hope to have. I don't see Hugh trying to incorporate all of those looks with LE the way he did with Jennifer. Just enjoy your precious Huddy and leave Jennifer and the House/Cameron fans alone.

So true! It's an exercise in frustration. There is no way to have a rational discussion with them. They are the worst shippers I've ever had the displeasure of coming across in all of my fandoms. It's best to ignore them, it will save you much aggravation.

It's ridiculous how the Huddy fans are still so threatened by Cameron. She's not even on the show anymore. But it speaks well of her chemistry with House that you all act like she could still ruin your precious House/Cuddy. It makes me laugh, quite frankly.

Cameron was a disaster of a character initially. Simpering after House etc. but eventually she grew as a character. Probably the only character on the show who actually developed as a person. She was nowhere near my favourite character, but it was nice to see someone have an arc in which they changed but still stayed true to their core character traits.
I can't think of a single reason why the actress would want to come back though, nor do I see where she would fit in this current version of House. No one really seems to fit in it any more, beyond the obvious.

Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones - Torchwood
He absolutely is already the most missed character from any series that I can think of in the past decade. Bring him back and the fans that will not watch will return and those that will continue to tune in no matter what won't mind a bit. Win - Win
Plus if you want to talkk chemistry he and John Barrowman as Capt. Jack Harkness exuded it in every glance.

,could not agree with this list more espically cameron and Zack returning to bones and house. for the fireworks and grief she would cause house and house would cause her in cutey's job would be interesting. and Zack think maybe he has enough time locked up to be given a new chance. Mandy Patakin. never going to happen for he left under less then good terms with the producers and do not think they would forgive and let him return.

Alex, if you can find that interview of Shore's where he said they tanked House/Cameron because of lack of chemistry, please cite it. Shore's speech at Osgoode said nothing about the show and his other one to House fans at York University didn't say that either. It's such an unprofessional thing to say, it's hard to believe Hugh Laurie would say it.

They got rid of Cameron because she worked best as a medical character and didn't fit into the soap opera the show has become. Bringing her back might help the show get back to how good it was in the first three seasons.

Most of the other characters on this list as fun characters who would still fit into the shows. House is the only one who took a completely different direction when it moved Cameron to the back and later got rid of her.

Jennifer Morrison?Seriously?..I can still remember when this place kept complaining about how horrible the House/Cameron pairing was how much better the show would be if House and Cuddy were together. Now they are together they ask for Cameron to come back. Will these people ever stop complaining?..I guess the answer is no.
But if they go so far as to suggest Jennifer Morrison should come back you guys have completely lost your mind. She lacks acting skills (even if she's gotten better with time, I'll give you that) and her character has no interest at all...I like Amber Tamblyn's character so much better..Not only because she's an amazing actress but also because M. Masters is a good version of Cameron.
I am glad they got rid of Jennifer Morrison.Let the HIMYM gang have her...even if most of them dislike her as much as the House fandom does.

@alex it wasn´t an interview. It was some kind of informal meeting (my canadian friend was there). Shore exact words were "we didn´t go down the House/Cameron route because Hugh had to struggle through their scenes". From the acting point of view, these were his weakest scenes so it´s not unbelievable that Hugh asked producers to stop it and give him more (and more romantic) scenes with Lisa Edelstein. Being great friends probably made it much easier.

Informal meeting? So it's made up then? Why would anyone believe some randomer who says their friend happened to hear something no one else on the internet has reported hearing?
And yeah, given what I know about Hugh Laurie, the idea of him 'requesting' romantic scenes is laughable.

Forget bringing back Jennifer Morrison why the heck should she suffer thru what House has become. They had finally developed her character into a mature person and professional and they jettison her for the immature and unbelivable antics of Huddy. Horrible! Want to help House (the show and the character) don't bring anyone back get rid of Lisa Cuddy/Lisa Edelstein. The sooner, the better! The show now revolves around her and it is unwatchable.

While I'd love to think that Jennifer Morrison could save House from the irritating soap opera it has become, I don't think that could happen. There's no realistic reason for the Cameron character to return to the show, so anything the writers tried to do would feel as forced as this House/Cuddy relationship nonsense they are forcing on the viewers now.

Current theory on Huddies: either morons, or... suffering from Electra complex? I think they identify with Cuddy, but they don't seem to need her to be strong or respectable. Vicariously schtupping House due to daddy complex.

I do really want Cameron/JMo back on House, but..I am so afraid the writers/producers would just put her in some ridiculous relationship as they seem to think the only worthwhile storyline for the women on House has to be romantic in nature. They have practically ruined Cuddy as she really has NO storyline or growth beyond boinking House. Lisa E is a good actress and deserves better material than she is getting.
