March 2011 Archives
There may not be many releases this week, but at least we have some good cartoons.
Is 2011 the year of the TV miniseries' return to popularity?
Get ready for excitement, Arnold Schwarzenegger fans -- the former Governator has been teasing his return to movies since before he left office, and now it's been announced that his next project will be... a TV show? Details will be revealed at the MIPTV conference on April 4, but Ahnuld's representatives have said it will be an "international TV series." Whether that means it will be sold in international markets or that Ah-nuld's character will travel to exotic locales around the world to shoot people in the face remains to be seen, but it totally makes us rethink his comeback. Can TV screens possibly contain the power of Arnold Schwarzenegger? If so, there are some other TV shows we'd like him to guest-star on before his new series gets underway.
I've been reluctantly continuing to watch Breakout Kings solely because I knew T-Bag was coming eventually. After sitting through the entirety of Prison Break (even the really, really awful times) mostly because of the awesomeness of the multi-faceted freak show that was T-Bag, I was happy to see the character revived. And I finally got to see the episode I'd been excited for, and it delivered. Well, Robert Knepper and Jimmi Simpson delivered, the rest of the cast... were just on some other ordinary cop show.
Our second American Idol eliminee was revealed last week in Karen Rodriguez, the girl who can sing in both Spanish and English. As is customary, Karen participated in a media call to discuss the tragic events of her elimination, and because these Idol calls are always scripted enlightening, I called in to get you the highlights. Read on the for the riveting details of Karen Rodriquez's brief career on television.
After five seasons, Big Love bowed out for good last night with a shocking twist, a few final signature Bill Paxton bad acting moments (for good measure), and a mostly happy ending. The series finale was like this show has always been -- uneven, at times brilliant, other times overly wacky -- and though it wasn't perfect, it was at least a satisfying send-off for all in the Henrickson marriage. Actually, make that extremely satisfying for one member in particular.
The first official photo of Adrianne Palicki in her Wonder Woman costume was released to Entertainment Weekly today, promptly causing the collective internet's eyes to bleed. Judging by this costume, the David E. Kelly show -- which has been asserting since the beginning that it would be a serious, non-campy take on the character -- either has no idea what "serious" and "non-campy" means, or it just changed its mind somewhere along the way. Let's just quickly go over the worst things about this twelve-dollar Halloween costume that will soon be the face of a very expensive major network television show. Oy.
Let's start off with a little pilot casting news, shall we?
It's hard to believe that the reality TV genre can keep producing new personalities that are even more outrageous, annoying and/or disgusting than the last ones. But yet this spring alone has brought us another crop of folks we love to hate. Some of them are actually familiar faces we may have enjoyed watching in the past, while others are gifting us with their awfulness for the first time.
Happy St. Patrick's Day! NBC just got drunk on green beer and did something awesome!
