The new Real World premiered on MTV last night and, as is befitting the network of RJ Berger and Skins, the emphasis was on sex to the exclusion of almost all else. Clearly, they're hoping to out-do the outrageousness of the series' first Las Vegas go-round, but can any of these crazy kids disgust/fascinate us more than the likes of Trishelle and Steven? The key to the season may rest with how and when these seven strangers unveil their illicit secrets to the rest of their suite mates.
The Real World's unspoken tradition dictates that whenever a new season starts, the cast members must make a personal vow to never have sex with each other. Of course, it wasn't even 30 minutes into the first episode before some of the guys are scoping out which of the girls they want to bed, while on the other side, Nany was already barking up Adam's tree and Heather was grinding up against Dustin at a club. The Adam/Nany relationship has plenty of potential for major drama since Nany has a boyfriend back home, which hasn't stopped her from admitting an attraction to Adam from, literally, moment one. And, naturally she had to tell her boyfriend about Adam's interest in her because it wouldn't be a MTV reality show without an awkward phone conversation. But really, can you blame her? Adam's a former drug user who was sent to juvenile detention. By the standards of this show, that makes him a total catch.
Upping the sex quotient even more in the premiere, Adam took time out from pining for Nany by teaming up with Leroy to bring a group of random girls back to the pad for some communal Jacuzzi sex - a nice call-back to the first Vegas season. Leroy's definitely the alpha dog in this house, claiming the "King" bedroom and slaying drunk women's defenses with his tightly controlled manner.
But the biggest explosion may come once homespun Dustin comes clean about his past. You see, he's moonlight on the small screen before. Perhaps you remember him as Spencer from the live, uncensored webcam series on FratMen.com? (No, of course you don't.) Dustin hints that he did gay porn for pay in his younger years (he's a mature 24 now, don't you know). Except that he also admitted to having had a threesome involving a guy on his own time. We can't wait to see what happens when everyone, especially blinded-by-love/lust Heather, finds out.
As for remaining cast members Naomi and Michael, they were dead weight in this season premiere. American Eagle aficionado Michael seems more interested in upholding that other RW tradition, the house prude. Even when he got a couple of new female friends up to his room, he was more interested in reading to them from his personal prayer book. Is it too soon to start a drinking game about the number of times he mentions his grandma? Naomi, meanwhile, did manage to nap with both Heather and shirtless Dustin, but it was purely platonic as far as she was concerned.
During its last trip to Sin City, The Real World overstayed its welcome, with the hookups eventually becoming white noise: Steven always got with Trishelle; Frank rarely got any; Brynn was reliably manic, etc. Judging by the previews, this return visit promises to avoid that mistake and up the level of antagonism and heartbreak. We just hope we get to see Michael get completely corrupted by the debauchery surrounding him. Vegas, baby!

I must be old. I remember when The Real World wasn't trash.
Am I the only person who thinks this season is fake? There has to be more ppl out there...?
Amber I am here!! It is fake!! they changed it this year!! I am so sick of people saying it has been fake for years, it hasn't.
"Real World' is always bringing the drama to us and over the years, it just gets better and better. I can't wait for the episode to come on tonight. I will be at work but fortunately, I have the DISH Remote Access app so I can watch the show on my iPhone. I work and subscribe to DISH Network and I use the TV Everywhere function to keep in touch with all of my favorite shows . It's great to have when you're on the road and you need a little bit of excitement to help you along with the trip. I use it when I'm not at home for a prolonged period of time and the app is free! It works with the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android devices. You can also watch pre-recorded or live TV! I am always recommending that people check out DISH Network and I am inviting anyone who comes across this post to explore the endless possibilities with DISH Network and experience a value unseen by any other TV provider!
