Today's TWoP News: March 23, 2011

Spring supposedly started this week (despite the snow out my window), and the upfronts are just starting to bloom

The Cartoon Network showed off a bunch of neat stuff in their upfront. While they have some stuff that only kids and stoned college students will watch, they showed off a brand new Looney Tunes show, a new Green Lantern cartoon, and a whole block of DC Comics programing called DC Nation. And I almost forgot to mention the new Thundercats series! Every kind of cartoon nerd in my heart is crying out with way too much joy right now.

The Hallmark Channel also held their upfront today, presenting a "lifestyle" series hosted by Maya Angelou. I guess that takes her out of the running to be an X-Factor judge.

Watch up all the Showtime shows you can on Netflix right now. Showtime won't be renewing its contract with Netflix for instant streaming. If Netflix isn't careful, no one in Hollywood is going to want to play with them, even if they have the nicest toys.

Zack Galifianakis just signed a deal with HBO to make a new comedy series. He might be in it, but won't be starring, though. That job will be given to Brody Stevens, whom I guess is funny. He's going to really have to prove himself if he wants to escape the shadow of Galifianakis's beard.

In case you didn't know, Pawnee is the greatest town in America. If you don't believe me, you will soon be able to see for yourself by reading the book Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America. Written as a history of the town similar to the one Leslie put in the time capsule, this tome is sure to look nice on your shelf next to Sterling's Gold.

Hey! We finally have a US air date for Torchwood: Miracle Day: July 8. It's like Christmas in July, and Captain Jack Harkness is Santa.

Today's Charlie Sheen news actually teaches us just why casting directors aren't replaced by bloggers and Internet polls. A new contender has appeared as a Charlie Sheen replacement, Jeremy Piven. After playing a Hollywood jerk for so long on Entourage, any part on 2.5 Men is sure to come naturally to him.
