When Jacob Lusk was voted off American Idol last week, I expected some pretty over-the-top antics in his post-elimination media call. As in his musical performances, Jacob Lusk delivered a little bit, but mostly disappointed in his first big press outing, but I was still able to cull some nuggets out of his 20-minute interview. The highlights are below, and they are ridiculously inspirational, so you better be ready to have your life changed before you read on.
On How to Cope with Tragedies, Such As, But Not Limited to, Being Kicked Off a Reality Show:
Jacob Lusk: I made a joke months ago. If I ever get off this show or if I ever win, whatever happens, we're going to church -- and it was kind of a joke. And, what happened, I finished singing and I didn't want it to be a sad crying moment. I did cry after the show was over but, I said, when these people are here, we are not going to cry, we are going to rejoice. We are not going to have a funeral. We are going to rejoice. No crying. I wanted joy.
On the Irrevocable Churchy-ness of Being Jacob Lusk:
JL: You can't take gospel singing out of a person. Some of the greatest soul and R&B singers of all time -- Chaka Kahn, Patti LaBelle, Whitney Houston -- they all, even Mariah Carey, do a lot of church gospel inspired riffs; it's something that you can't run from.
Besides R&B, What Else Would Be on a Jacob Lusk Album? Surely Nothing Laughably Hyperbolic, Right?
JL: Definitely inspirational music as well. Something that's going to encourage people to keep living and keep fighting as well.
On Showing Your Mean Critics Who's Boss:
JL: You know, he [Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine] has his opinions and he's definitely entitled to them and I'm no longer a contestant. But all things work out together for the great of those who love the Lord. And I'm excited and I feel good about where my career is headed and it's now time for me to get to work. It's time for me to put out those great R&B records, time for me to go on auditions and get on Broadway and, you know, maybe do some film. And I definitely see some duets in my future hopefully -- some Chaka Khan, some Patti LaBelle, maybe a little Whitney Houston for me. Definitely excited.
On How to Be Great:
JL: At the end of the day, it's up to me and I have to be myself and then any time I'm being myself, they can't say anything and that's where it comes down to -- being yourself and being the best that you can be and when you're great, you're great. When you're good, you're good. Nobody can argue with that. And that's what I have to do.
Good advice, all of it. Now go do it -- make your own Jacob Lusk future!

My god, he's full of himself, isn't he? Dude, you're just some guy who got voted off a reality show - you're not a star! Don't let the door hit you in the @ss on your way out.
I just love seeing somebody twist a Bible verse for their own purposes, as Jacob has done here. That is not remotely what it says, or means. Ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as assuming that the divas he mentioned would want to sing with him. Yep, he repulses me in pretty much every way. Go away, Jacob.
I haven't even watched this season (I feel a 'praise Jesus' is appropriate here) but I am confident in saying that this tool is a real jackass.
Ah, yes, Jacob Lusk. Because there are so so many 5th place American Idol castoffs who are in films, on Broadway, and recording duets with multiple Grammy award winning international icons. The future's so bright, you gotta wear shades! (P.S. Dude, you'll be lucky to be singing at local food festivals and shopping mall events a year from now. Real lucky. Get back to us then, m'kay?)
Not that I'm in any way supporting Jacob's delusions, but Constantine Maroulis (who I also couldn't stand) placed 6th on AI and starred in Rock of Ages on Broadway (and was nominated for a Tony).
Jennifer Hudson placed 7th on AI, performed on Broadway in Hair and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and won a buttload of awards (including an Oscar) for Dreamgirls.
Chris Daughtry (another one I didn't like) placed 4th and is the third best AI alumni in terms of album sales, behind Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. He has also collaborated/recorded with Carlos Santana and Timbaland.
So although it's very unlikely that Lusk is going to do anything besides keep stroking his own massive ego now that he's off the show, there's a small chance that he might get to do something cool. Probably not with that entitled attitude, but you never know!
A minute saved is a minute eaernd, and this saved hours!
Do you have more great atircles like this one?
