The 2011 TV Cancellations We're Happiest About

Aaaaaaaaaaaand... they're out of here. The powers that be at the various networks got out their axes and started chopping this week in preparation for upfronts, and while guilty pleasure Off the Map and the genuinely solid cop dramas The Chicago Code and Detroit 1-8-7 were butchered in the process, most of the cuts were richly deserved. Here are the ones we're least likely to miss:

Brothers & Sisters
We had numerous reasons why this show's time was up, and thankfully, the folks at ABC granted our wish. Most likely because they had no cast members left.

$#*! My Dad Says
We'll never again have to stop and remember what random punctuation we need to use in order to make this Twitter account sanitary for network television. Or the lame jokes that they needed to make this once original Twitter account acceptable for our grandmas to watch.

Outsourced
The weak spot in the Thursday night comedy block (we've already forgotten the previously cancelled Paul Reiser Show), this lazy comedy was always a letdown after 30 Rock.

V
Perhaps in a few more decades, the Visitors will make another return to Earth and producers will find a way to make a show about lizard people exciting. Until then, we hope Anna and her stupid blue energy have safe (and blissful) travels back to their home planet.

The Event
In the pilot episode, we saw a plane disappear into thin air, and then we spent the rest of the season just waiting and waiting for something else that was equally ridiculous and fun. Instead, we've had a lot of poorly written dialogue, so at this point, we're kind of rooting for the fake human population to be wiped out in the series finale.

Hellcats
Although this one also fell into the guilty pleasure category, it really was quite a terrible show. So while there's part of us that will miss the implausible conceit of a pre-law cheerleader and her perky cohorts doling out justice and back handsprings, our brain cells are grateful that she and her half-shirts are gone for good.

The Defenders
Aw, Jerry O'Connell and Jim Belushi. We couldn't really buy you as lawyers. Not even sort of sleazy Vegas lawyers. Better luck next time.

Human Target
How did such a great premise become such a stupid generic cop show? It was a massive disappointment and was lucky to have been on as long as it was.

No Ordinary Family
Was it worse than Heroes? Maybe not, but given a second season, it probably would have been. We're pretty sure they could have found a way to turn Michael Chiklis into an insufferable child without his adult memories, or sent the whole family back to feudal Japan.

Perfect Couples/Better With You/Traffic Light/Mad Love
Happy Endings was the only one of these cloned shows about a varying number of friends/couples who do quirky things like play board games and talk about their issues with the opposite sex to survive the season. We were hoping for a clean sweep, but four out of five ain't bad.

Law & Order: LA/ Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior
We didn't really have strong feelings about either of these spinoffs, but we're hopeful that this is a sign that the procedural cop show as we know it might be a dying breed.

Check out video previews and analysis of every upcoming new show from ABC, CBS, The CW, NBC, Fox, TBS and TNT. Plus: see which pilots deserved to be rejected.

The only one of these I ever watched or cared about was Outsourced which I much prefered to the meh 30 Rock. :-( Not terribly surprising that it got axed though with it's ratings and bad press. It was really funny though. Funny enough to watch the whole 3 hour comedy block on Thursday between it and Community.

The cancellations of "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior", "Breaking In" and "Lie To Me" all seemed, if not causes for wild celebration, justified at least.

I can't say I'm surprised about V, but I'm still bummed that it ended with so many issues left dangling. I'd love a two-hour TV movie to wrap up loose ends. Wishful thinking, I know!

Suspect Behavior was depressing television. LOLA was good drama getting better. NBC doesn't want to pay for experienced actors. Put the L&O franchise on another network. Chances are with the changes to SVU this year it will die as well. Jennifer Love Hewitt is jumping the shark.

I may be the only person in America... But I actually liked Traffic Light. It was certainly worth leaving the tv on after Raising Hope for and I thought it got better and funnier with each successive episode. Not to mention, the guy who was married to Liza Lapira on the show also played the demon Skip on Angel!

If you're bummed about Chicago Code being cancelled, you're obviously not from Chicago. Those of us who are, were thrilled to see this mediocre cops and pols show die. Especially since they apparently didn't have anyone at all on the writing staff who actually knew anything about Chicago.

Er, why the knee-jerk snob attitude? If it's done well, with good acting, good plots, and good dialogue...who cares if it's a procedural or not? Not every show that breaks the mold is worth watching, or very good.

Agreed, 100%. I'm tired of snobs talking themselves into liking shows they think they're supposed to and talking trash about the ones they think they're not even when they admit they don't have strong feelings for the particular shows they're referencing.

I don't understand the Hellcats & Outsourced hate. They were both enjoyable, not the best shows in the world but they were fun and adorable. Hellcats made me like Ashley Tisdale!! And Outsourced really grew into a cute little comedy which made fun of America AND India.

Also, I can't believe you just said No Ordinary Family was better than Heroes. Are you guys forgetting that the 1st season of Heroes was fantastic? Compare it the first season of NOF, no contest. Sure it got pretty bad after that first season (actually the first season finale is when it started) but I still think Heroes was freaking Shakespeare to No Ordinary Family.

Outsourced was not lazy at all. It had plots that were completely different than anything else on television. The characters were believable and the jokes were different. People just couldn't handle laughing at a show poking fun at american culture, it's sad.

I am so fed up with becoming invested in serial dramas which seem to ultimately be leading toward a resolution/surprise/revelation only to have them cancelled. In defference to the consumer ALL of these shows should be required to wrap up their loose ends in a 4 episode arc in September (after their Spring cancellation). Or..in some cases wouldn't it be great if Showtime, HBO , Bravo or other cable network could pick them up , rewrite them for adults(without the sanitizing done for Network TV)and continued them.I wouldn't mind seeing "V" continued in the style of "The Walking Dead" .

I'm actually sad to see Hellcats go, although I will not miss Marti singing. I was completely charmed by Ashley Tisdale, and it was nice to see a show set somewhere non-coastal and non-Chicago for once. Other than True Blood I'm having a hard time thinking of another southern show.

"How did such a great premise become such a stupid generic cop show?"

Simple. I got renewed, but the network suits dumped the cliffhanger ending of Season 1, and decided that it needed to be retooled, by adding a fancy office, female lead characters, a new theme, and less martial arts. The result: the awful second season.

I actually loved Perfect Couples. Sure, the premise was stale but I thought it was well executed. Mostly due to the amaaaaazing Olivia Munn as the hilarious Leigh. It certainly wasn't a groundbreaking show but it was entertaining and consistently made me laugh. I honestly think that if NBC had bothered to promote it at all (but not so much as ABC over-promoted Happy Endings) it might have had a chance.

I thought Traffic Light and Outsourced were both pretty funny. I think people were too quick to write off Outsourced as racist, when it mocked both cultures equally and showcased a lot of talented people. It's not like there's an overabundance of great roles for Indian actors. :/

I'm not judging the show one way or the other. I do wonder whether having Indian actors playing up to American stereotypes of Indians is a huge advancement, though. If these were great roles, I might agree with you, but they're not.

I'm sure I'm among the few who liked "$#*! My Dad Says." I agree, though, that the humor was too tame and the plots started going off course right from the pilot. A lot of it could have been fixed, though, by cutting out the brother and sister-in-law and focusing on the dad and son. The in-laws just were NOT FUNNY, and it dragged the rest down.

Just read the TWOP forums from day one to a few episodes in- viewers like myself were pleasantly surprised. The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.

Yet another thing to think about to get a organization is to using a attorney. In order to make your purchase as risk-free as possible, it is a large advantage to have your own lawyer through the total procedure. This not only scares away any person who calculatedly misrepresents what they are marketing, but it also ensures that you acquire every little thing that you need. Business lawyers, specially types with encounter in web company revenue, presently know what you should be receiving in terms and conditions of electronic and logical house. They can also ensure that all of the right paperwork and documentation is signed at the time of sale. Even if you will not want to spend a attorney to be at your side via the total procedure, you ought to at minimum have one particular look above all of the closing paperwork prior to the transaction is finished.

As someone who lives and trains in Japan, I can say that this is not an American-specific situation. Starting in Junior High School (but often even earlier), children are pushed to focus on one club or sport at the exclusiveness of all others. As such, we have junior high school and high school judo players (my particular sport, BTW) that do 5-6 judo practices (focusing on technical skill and ability) a week all 12 months a year. The only breaks they will have is during the winter break (about 2 weeks) and the end of school year break (about 3 weeks to a month, depending on the sport). Even during the summer vacation, many clubs will have extra summer practices to make sure that players aren't "lazy."

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Apa masalahnya Tun...?.

it is disheartening, i think even for Tun to see readers who support you blindly without any reason. it is disheartening as well that people make ad hominem arguemnts against the Prme Minister, Abdullah instead of attacking his ideas and policies.
Most of the criticisms and comments against Pak lah in the comments section boil down to stupid attacks on him when they should attack a leaders ideas, accountability and actions. and it is disheartening that fellow Malaysians blindly follow you. Even I think that you would be happier if people supported you not blindly but after assessing your arguments show and appreciate that your argument holds true. instead most here love you for the name and persona instead of your ideas and thought.
and thats the bad thing, idolising without reason. if i were a leader heck, i wouldnt want people worshipping me because i am me. i want to be put in question. i want to be criticised. i want to be put on the discussion table. i am sure your years of leadership have shown you that the best supporters are those who assess your arguments and ideas and not those who kiss your hands and say sweet nothings to you. you have said you abhor yes -men of abdullahs cabinet. am i right to think you abhor the yes men here in your comments section as well?
Malaysians, GROW UP... assess tun's ideas, put them on the tabe\le and compare and contrast. then only say you adore him and what not...
