Today's TWoP News: May 3, 2011

You may laugh, but I, for one, still enjoy having an RSS feed of the news read to me by someone on TV sitting behind a desk.

In case you were worried, it's now official that Bones is getting renewed. After all, how could Fox put Emily Deschanel out on the street while she's pregnant?

CBS announced today that Scott Pelley will be replacing Katie Couric as the network's Evening News anchor. Having been the reporter who has won most of CBS's news awards in the past few years, Palley has truly earned the right to spend half an hour a night talking to himself.

With a dozen new shows announced today, USA Network seems to have gone mad with its cable dominance. Most of the shows look pretty bland, but Nathan Lane is starring in one in which, instead of playing a version of himself, he is playing a guy who looks like Nathan Lane. This sounds like the perfect show for Paul Reiser to make a decade from now.

Just when we thought the Inventor show trend was dead, History is trying to bring it back to life. They are also going to be giving us a show all about visualizing data. It's nice to see the channel has finally realized its biggest demographic prefers chart-porn to Hitler biographies.

If you ever thought Sex and the City was too girly but should also be on Lifetime, you're in luck. Lifetime has just ordered a pilot for you.

Emily Mortimer will probably be cast as the female lead of Aaron Sorkin's upcoming HBO show. Her character will be a TV producer who is bad at most everything else. I can't blame Sorkin for simply recreating the same characters, but I think I might have to start referring to this show as NewsNight.

It might not really be TV related, but both the Tony awards and MTV Movie awards announced their nominations today. It's nice to see that MTV made up for the American Theatre Wing's snubbing of Twilight, but I really don't care about any other awards this year now that I know that Sharktopus won SyFy.com's Monster Madness tournament.
