On the new series Same Name, an ordinary person who happens to share the name with someone famous trades places with them for a few days. In the first episode, it is David Hasselhoff of Knight Rider fame and David Hasselhoff of Lake Jackson, Texas. By switching places, they get to see how the other half lives. So David Hasselhoff (the German singing sensation) moves into a humble home in Texas, while the not-famous one gets hooked up with The Hoff's bodyguard and mansion. They each get a dossier to help them adapt...and what you'd expect ensues. The Hoff struggles with babies and small bathrooms, while the other enjoys seeing KITT and the luxuries of having a pet pig, housekeeper and personal assistant. We also get to see Taylor, The Hoff's daughter, who seems well-adjusted given that whole cheeseburger video incident. Can't wait for the Alec Baldwin to see what that girl is like.
While the show isn't exactly must-see TV, it is definitely the most CBS show we've seen in a long time. It will fit perfectly with Undercover Boss and probably last 100 years and we can ignore it unless it features a celebrity we are remotely interested (which probably won't ever happen). That said, we did learn a few passably interesting facts about The Hoff from this episode, things we never learned in all our years of watching America's Got Talent.
The Hoff has a well-stocked fridge that is specifically for drinks of the non-alcoholic variety.
He has an African room, with stuffed animals, and a giant wax Hasselhoff that was used in the Spongebob movie.
He has ostrich boots.
He has a bird named Peaches who is very vocal, and his neighbor thinks he's a bird abuser.
He's thinking of buying a castle, because you can get them cheap in Croatia.
He's happy to eat food. Really any food.
He hasn't had a pop tart in 20 years.
He would move if the lights went out because he wouldn't know how to fix them.
Hoff has an amazing fan club called Knights of the West Coast.
OK, maybe some of those facts aren't exactly riveting, but we learned something so it wasn't a complete waste of an hour. We suppose.
