The network confirmed yesterday that it will be cancelling Kate Plus 8 after the conclusion of this current season. The long-running series got its start, of course, as Jon & Kate Plus 8 back in 2007, but really entered the pop culture consciousness in a big way two years later when Mommy and Daddy got in a big fight and Daddy had to move out. At least those adorable Gosselin tykes will now be spared the indignity of having their awkward teenage years captured on camera. Unless one of them ends up on Teen Mom or something...

Russell Armstrong, the estranged husband of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member Taylor Armstrong, was found dead in his bedroom last night. The death is currently being treated as a suicide, pending an official examination. Taylor filed for divorce in July, alleging that Russell has physically abused her. The series' second season is currently set to premiere on September 5, and The Bravo family has expressed their condolences.

Great news for Far From Heaven fans! The director and star of that terrific 2002 film -- that would be Todd Haynes and Julianne Moore respectively -- may be reuniting for another period piece, this time for HBO, where Haynes recently helmed the sure-to-be-Emmy nominated miniseries Mildred Pierce. Presently titled Dope, the project is a dramatic series about a recovering heroin addict who embarks on a career as a private eye in 1950s Manhattan. Let's get this one on the air as soon as possible please.

Fresh off the final season of Big Love, Bill Paxton leaves premium cable for basic, signing on to the History Channel miniseries The Hatfields and McCoys, which recounts the famous feud between the two Southern families. Paxton will play Randolph McCoy opposite Kevin Costner's "Devil" Anse Hatfield. Since Costner tends to do his best work in Westerns, color us intrigued.

New father Nick Cannon has picked up a recurring gig on the baby-themed fall series Up All Night, which stars Will Arnett and Christina Applegate as overworked, overstressed new parents. Cannon will portray the second banana on the talk show-within-the-show hosted by Maya Rudolph's Ava. Does this mean Mariah's on permanent late-night feeding duty?

The newest addition to the Chicago-set fall drama The Playboy Club originally hails from Metropolis. Smallville's Cassidy Freeman a.k.a. Tess Mercer will appear in a recurring role on the NBC series as a socialite that strikes up a mutually beneficial show-mance with leading man Eddie Cibrian.

Rescue Me co-creator Peter Tolan is wasting little time looking for new work now that the firehouse drama is ending its run. Tolan has signed on to write and executive produce Sean Hayes' still-untitled, still-in-development sitcom that follows the misadventures of two gay dads raising a 12-year-old kid. This kid's name wouldn't happen to be Rachel Berry perchance, would it? Secret Glee spin-off everyone!
