The NCIS crews are in the hizzouse!
NCIS: The Complete Eight Season
NCIS Los Angeles: The Complete Second Season
The NCIS franchise keeps on trucking, with both the mothership and its L.A.-based spin-off firmly entrenched atop the Nielsen charts as they enter their ninth and third seasons respectively. Season 8 of NCIS found the CIA repeatedly gumming up Mark Harmon's smoothly run crime-fighting outfit and ended with an NCIS agent being fingered as a supplier of classified information. The unit was also regularly bedeviled by a murderer calling himself the Port-to- Port Killer. Over on Season 2 of NCIS: LA, Chris O'Donnell's past came back to haunt him when his supervisor (Linda Hunt) resigns and it turns out she belongs to a family that's targeted him for death. Yup, sounds like business as usual for the good men and women of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
Extras: Various behind-the-scenes featurettes and a handful of commentary tracks.
Brothers and Sisters: The Complete Fifth Season
After debuting to strong reviews and great ratings in 2006, the ABC drama Brothers & Sisters slunk off the airwaves for good this past May after what was largely considered a disappointing fifth and final season. Now fans that may have fallen away from the series as it progressed can see how things ended up for the problem-plagued Walker clan and the various friends and relatives unlucky enough to wind up in their orbit. Oh, Calista Flockhart, what will you do for steady work now? It's not like Harrison's recent film work has been bringing in the big bucks...
Extras: Deleted scenes, bloopers and a few featurettes.
The Event: The Complete Series
Off the Map: The Complete Series
A pair of high-profile network flops get the "complete series" treatment on their road to obscurity. NBC launched their paranormal serial The Event to great fanfare last fall, but instead of becoming the next Lost, the show very quickly turned into the next FlashForward (remember that one?) and lost viewers in droves, barely limping across the finish line of the 2010-2011 season. With Off The Map, Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes tried to translate her patented recipe of sexy doctors saving lives and sleeping around to an exotic South American setting, but audiences didn't make the trip with her. If nothing else, the show gave our beloved Wonderfalls star Caroline Dhavernas a paycheck for a while, so that somewhat justifies its existence.
Extras: Both sets offer deleted scenes and featurettes and The Event reveals an alternate storyline. Maybe one that was actually, you know, good?
Also on DVD:
Gossip Girl: The Complete Fourth Season continues the misadventures of Serena, Blair and the rest of their oversexed, overprivileged and underdressed Upper West Side crew. The hit Disney channel cartoon series Phineas and Ferb gets its own direct-to-DVD movie Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension, which takes the title characters to a parallel reality. (Too bad they don't travel six more dimensions over for a jam session with the Hong Kong Cavaliers.) It seems to be an unofficial rule that every Daily Show correspondent gets his or her own Comedy Central stand-up special at some point. Now it's Wyatt Cenac's turn; Wyatt Cenac: Comedy Person finds the comic in front of a hometown Big Apple crowd riffing on the Tea Party, the Web and Medieval Times (the restaurant, not the time period).
