The new boss is in town, but he isn't off to a good start.
The season premiere of The Office, featuring James Spader, Dunder Mifflin's new CEO and Andy as regional manager, dropped 11 percent from last year, drawing in 7.6 million viewers. NBC saw low numbers all around, with Community dropping 23 percent to 4 million viewers and Parks and Recreation only getting 4.1 million viewers. Whitney was even down 11 percent from the premiere of Outsourced last year, with only 6.1 million eyeballs -- that laugh track probably scared any potential viewers away. The Big Bang Theory topped off the night with 14.1 million ratings, while the new drama Person of Interest got 13.2 million. The X Factor tied its debut on Wednesday with 12.5 million viewers, giving Simon Cowell another thing to brag about.
Speaking of Cowell's new show, it turns out you might not want your kids to watch The X Factor -- they let any riffraff on the stage. On last night's episode, contestant Geo Godley dropped his pants during his performance. Rather than cutting the clip, producers decided to censor him with a large "X." Furious with the producers' decision, the Parents Television Council are planning to file a formal indecency complaint with the FCC. Maybe The X Factor should have taken a note from Idol and played a cutesy ad of the contestants singing about product placement instead of Godley's performance.
HIMYM fans and Ted will finally be getting some closure: The slutty pumpkin Ted waits for every Halloween will be back this season, and she's being played by none other than Katie Holmes. We wonder what Tom Cruise thinks of his wife's new scantily clad role.
Blood + Vampire Sex = Comic Books? Courtney Ford (Dexter), who recently appeared on True Blood, will be guest starring on The Big Bang Theory as an artsy "downtown girl" the guys meet at a comic book store.
Billy Zane will be joining The Playboy Club as Oscar Bianchi, the ruthless younger brother of Chicago Mafia boss Bruno Bianchi, that wants to avenge his brother's death. Zane already has the part of the arrogant rich snob down thanks to his role as Kate Winslet's fiancé in Titanic.
Kiefer Sutherland will be starring in Tim Kring (Heroes)'s new Fox show, Touch. The show focuses on a dad who learns his mute 11-year-old son is actually a genius and communicates with him via patterns and numbers. Basically, it's exactly what you'd expect in a show from Jack Bauer the guy who created Heroes.
Adrian Pasdar (Heroes) and Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos) are joining Ed Burns and Michael Rapaport on Doug Ellin's 40. The show focuses on four friends who help each other navigate life after 40. So basically, it's Men of a Certain Age set 10 years earlier, and without Ray Romano.
Angels are the new vampires - or at least ABC thinks so. ABC bought Will Gluck's (Easy A, Friends with Benefits) comedy about an angel forced out of Heaven and then takes up residence in New York City. It sounds a whole lot like author Nicholas Sparks' new ABC show, The Watchers, about Archangel Raphael, who cut his wings off to be with a mortal -- but the mortal dies (c'mon, it wouldn't be Nicholas Sparks without a dead lover), forcing a sad, wingless Raphael to wander around the world.
Lifetime renewed Drop Dead Diva for a fourth season, picking up 13 episodes and calling it a "signature series." While it's nice to see the dramedy will be back, it would be nicer to see Lifetime actually advertise it.
