Beavis and Butt-head: Same As It Ever Was

Last night marked the return of Beavis and Butt-head to MTV, and the un-dynamic duo are up to the same stuff they had become famous for: snarking on pop culture, trying to pick up chicks and sitting on their couch in their rock-band t-shirts. Only the pop culture targets have changed, though their social commentary seems to have gotten slightly more insightful than "this sucks" in their long absence from TV. Still, you can always count on Beavis to be massively enthralled by fire and for bands to find ways to incorporate flames into their videos.

I haven't particularly given either Beavis or Butt-head all that much thought in the last decade, so I'm not sure entirely who this show is aimed at. Adults with a nostalgia factor who don't mind that these teens are still doing stupid stuff like finding a guy to bite them in order to become werewolves? Or a new generation who didn't really know the twosome the first time around?

I personally haven't been clamoring for more of them since they "did" America on the big screen, but I enjoyed the two of them ragging on things like Twilight and Jersey Shore. Personally, I always preferred their spin on videos more than their actual misadventures, but I know that I had friends who felt the exact opposite way. And this incarnation is one of the few opportunities I have to actually see videos on TV. Heck, I didn't even know there was a video for MGMT's "Kids." And that Skillrex video was cool. Child molester or not.

It was weird to see animated versions of Bella and Edward from Twilight instead of the actual footage (the rights for that must have cost a fortune), but I'm glad that they didn't let some pricey ridiculous movie stop them from skewering Kristin Stewart's zombie-like performance. And any one that wants to poke fun at LMFAO is fine by me. I don't know that I need to watch this every week, since I already saw every episode of the original series the first time around, but I will tune in occasionally in the hopes of a Cornholio appearance. I've got a feeling I won't be alone.
