NBC is going to the White House.
The Peacock ordered 1600 Penn, a comedy from Tony-nominated Book of Mormon star Josh Gad, former White House speechwriter Jon Lovett and Modern Family director Jason Winer. The show will focus on a dysfunctional family that happens to live at America's most famous address. Hopefully that family is presidential, and not a squatting couple of Real Housewives of DC party crashers.
Melanie Griffith may star in Lifetime's American Housewife, a show based off an idea of husband Antonio Banderas'. The series focuses on a mom who "has conversations with her inner voice" while dealing with one child at college and another staying at home. How long into the series before the inner voice takes over, United States of Tara-style? We miss Buck!
Damages has a knack for out-of-the-box casting. Comedy actress Jenna Elfman is guest starring as an investment bank employee frustrated with her company's conduct. (Can the writers somehow work her in a funny scene with Rose Byrne?) Spartacus' John Hannah will recur as Rutger, the adviser to McClaren (Ryan Phillippe), a Julian Assange type.
Thomas Lennon and Bruce Davison will both be guest starring on Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23. Lennon will play a Wall Street stockbroker Chloe (Krysten Ritter) sleeps with after June (Dreama Walker) tries to network. Davison plays Lennon's father, who June eventually gets an in through. Maybe Chloe isn't the only bitch in the building.
Attention One Tree Hill fans (however many of you are left): James Lafferty will be in the series finale, despite the fact that his character was scaled back. You guys really had nothing to worry about, though -- even Chad Michael Murray is even returning.
Chuck's last major villain will be none other than Robert the Bruce. Braveheart's Angus MacFadyen will guest star as Nicholas Quinn, a former CIA agent who, like Chuck, is a spy for hire -- but he only works for the bad guys. Is his show getting increasingly less watchable, too?
ABC picked up Tracy McMillian's Why You're Not Married, a comedy based off a blog post McMillian wrote for The Huffington Post back in February. Reasons include: You're a Bitch, You're Shallow, You're a Slut, You're a Liar, You're Selfish, You're Not Good Enough. Ouch.
A&E continues to class it up, renewing Beyond Scared Straight for a third season.
Eat your heart out, Cash Cab: Fuse ordered Funny or Die's Billy on the Street, a series where the hilarious Billy Eichner tests NYC pedestrians on their music knowledge in a fast-paced trivia style game show. We would've titled the show Cynthia Nixon on a Camel, but either way, we're excited.
