The sweeping fairytale romance between Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries officially ended last Monday, and we're heartbroken because it seemed like they were in it for the long haul. We're kidding, of course -- like most sane onlookers, we assumed the two were in a sham relationship orchestrated to generate media coverage and further her fame. But as cacophonous as the frenzy over their nuptials (and now split) was, we thought we could at least escape it by losing ourselves in our favorite scripted shows -- except for the fact that TV is filled with its share of equally unbelievable pairings. Here are the ones we really can't believe in:
10. Van Alden & Lucy (Boardwalk Empire)
He's a staunch and righteous man who self-flagellates for thinking improper thoughts about a woman, but yet he hooks up with a known floozy and gets her knocked up? Even if he thought he was going to get a baby for his wife at the end of it, something there doesn't quite feel right. We buy that Lucy could be into a man with any power, but he doesn't seem to suffer whining, so how did he not ship his mistress off somewhere to have that kid instead of dealing with her voice for nine months?
9. Declan & Charlotte (Revenge)
They're edgy teens in the Hamptons, but from opposite sides of the tracks, so TV bylaws mandate that they be together... regardless of the fact that they are the most mismatched pairing this show could conceive of and the one really flawed part of an otherwise great drama.
9. Teddy & Henry (Grey's Anatomy)
This couple seems to be together solely because circumstances forced them to be that way. He can't date because he's always ill and in the hospital, so they got married because he needed insurance and then they magically fell in love. But it's all just too convenient. And if he dies and there is Dead Henry ghost sex, we are done.
7. Blair & Prince Louis (Gossip Girl)
She initially dismissed him because she believed he was poor, and he breaks up with her on a near weekly basis because he has trust issues. Clearly, things between them have never been exactly what you'd consider smooth sailing. To say they are getting married for publicity seems unnecessarily cruel, but we'd be shocked if these two ever tie the knot, or if they last longer than 72 days... still, imagine the tabloid headlines they'll create either way.
6. James & Elisabeth (Terra Nova)
He's a tough detective, she's a brilliant doctor, they have too many children (at least by their society's rules) and they couldn't be more disinterested in each other when they are together. It's like they'd probably take a nap instead of having sex... or maybe it's just us who wants to take a nap when we think about the two of them.
5. Whitney & Alex (Whitney)
Are these two only together because no one else could like them? Or is it because of their shared obsession with role-playing? Or maybe it's because they are just too lazy to find someone else, because neither of them seems all that interested in trying to impress the opposite sex... or anyone, really.
4. Lori and Rick (The Walking Dead)
We've seen her have an affair with someone else, and it seemed like they were on the brink of implosion before the whole zombie apocalypse happened. However, what we really question is how they ever got together in the first place. There isn't a single spark to be found anywhere near either of them.
3. Kurt & Blaine (Glee)
They appear to be together solely because they are the only gay young men on the show (sans the still closeted and MIA Karofsky). Blaine seems smart and clever and we can't figure out why he'd leave (or why his family would let him leave) his fancy prep school to go to school with his high school boyfriend -- especially when he could have had his pick of handsome fellas in blazers. Not that Kurt isn't adorable, but he's just a little high-strung and seems like more than a little bit of a handful (not to mention that being second banana to Rachel Berry after you were the featured soloist for the Warblers seems like a step down, but that's another story). Much as we want to applaud the show for spotlighting a gay couple, it would've been nice if it was one that exuded a modicum of chemistry. Or do they not teach that class at McKinley?
2. Nora and Barney (How I Met Your Mother)
We can't see this one working out in the long run, mainly because Barney's pretending to be someone he's not in order to be with her. She doesn't seem to get him and wasn't even around to see him do his ridiculous Apollo Creed entrance on Halloween. She's only near him when he's on his best behavior and doesn't really mesh with his all-important friends. And what is Barney gaining from this relationship, aside from a woman who can tolerate his duck tie? Is he interested in Nora solely because she didn't fall for one of his schemes? If so, there are probably a lot of other, better, people who fit that bill.
1. Chuck and Sarah (Chuck)
We know the shippers out there will disagree, but these two don't make any sense together. No, not on account of how she's insanely hot and he's a nerd (because now he's a sexy spy, too), but because they don't seem compatible at all aside from their shared occupation. She's against conventional institutions like marriage, while he's so into old-fashioned romance. And they seem to spend more time hiding things from each other than actually talking. Plus, let's be honest, doesn't Chuck seem to have more chemistry with pretty much anyone else on the show (including Casey and Morgan) than he does with Sarah?

Definitely agree with the merit of this list. It's like there isn't a show out there that can't leave two characters alone and not hook them up. While I am a Chuck fan, I will agree with number 1 in that I found Chuck and Sarah way more interesting apart than together. Will say that Sookie and every potential romantic interest on True Blood should've been somewhere on this list. Sookie and Eric/Bill/Alcide are way more dynamic and interesting when away from each other dealing with the supernatural shit in Louisiana, but the instant it turns to sex/romance it gets awkward, clunky, and kind of lame. Plus it really kind of shows Sookie's stupid side as she ignores the beefy werewolf for two vampires whose attraction to her/attraction to them is tied to their tasty controlling blood.
Well, they are no longer couples, but what about on HIMYM Ted and Victoria? or Ted and Stella? Ted and Zooey? Ted seems to have more chemistry with the girls he dates for one epidsode. the relationships that stay beyond that point are just grating to watch.
I agree with the rest of the list, but IMNSHO, Whitney and Alex SO have amazing chemistry. The scenes where they make each other laugh are the realest, best part of the show: it explains (for me, anyway), why they keep choosing each other for the long haul.

I feel like the only person who actually liked Barney/Nora... *sigh*
But Blaine/Kurt is on this list... really? It's one of the few relationships on Glee, I actually buy and can root for. Perhaps next episode will change your mind.
Blaine and Kurt have no chemistry? Are you insane? That kiss from "Original Song" was hot, especially when Blaine went back in for a second one. If you're going for a Glee couple I would say Will/Emma are the ones that make no sense.

I disagree about Kurt and Blaine. I find them about the only good thing on that show lately. But perhaps, it's just Darren Criss and the kind of amazing chemistry he has with everyone.
I've just got caught up with Fringe and I'm not sure I completely buy the Peter and Olivia relationship. I don't know, it just feels kind of forced to me.

I agree with most of this, but Kurt and Blaine? Come on! They have adorable chemistry, they share a lot of the same hobbies, they both live to perform on stage and they don't just seem to be thrown together. There are a lot of Glee couples who obviously have less to talk about, including Rachel/Finn who, btw, have the least chemistry of any couple on the show.

I agree, I think Whitney Cummings and Chris Delia play off each other wonderfully. Pretty much the only redeeming aspect of the show, except for Delia's "freshly washed jeans" walk.
Yeah you're probably right about that. I think it's because Cory Monteith is starting to look more like his actual age of 30. Maybe it's because I've been a fan since episode one but I don't hate Finn and Rachel. First season I loved Will and Emma and that kiss from the first Sectionals episode was amazing. But somewhere along the way Will just became so creepy that he squicks me out when he's with anyone.
I don't totally disagree with Chuck & Sarah but they are hardly number one for me in unbelievable couples on television. Pretty much every couple from Glee, Gossip Girl, and True Blood would be on this list for me. Those shows just seem to enjoy pairing everyone with everyone and never having any of them work.
Darren Criss could probably have chemistry with a box of rocks and after seeing him up close in concert this summer I can attest that the boy has serious charisma. But I genuinely believe him and Kurt together. The look on his face when Kurt was singing "Blackbird" and he realized he had feelings for him is one of my favorite Glee moments ever. I'm so excited for the next episode that I can't stand it. Just the fact that a network TV show is dedicating as much time to gay couple's first time as they are to the main straight couple is incredible.
I disagree about Chuck and Sarah, and not from a blind shipper standpoint. I think they have great chemistry. Chuck did have more chemistry with Lou, but the show runners didn't keep her, so we have to move on.
In terms of having things in common, Chuck and Sarah both had unstable childhoods and disappearing parents, resulting in abandonment issues. Chuck is a natural nurturer, and Sarah desperately needs to be nurtured. It's textbook.
Also, they share a demanding career and enjoy working together.
Kurt and Blaine have zero sexual chemistry. ZERO. Especially compared to the crazy jump in acting ability and tension whenever Kurt and David Karofsky have a scene together.
I don't think Barney is pretending, he is just evolving as a character, which is good cause characters need to evolve. Also Chuck and Sarah have a ton of chemistry, and yes hot girls do go for geeks in real life, not that often but it happens. Plus Chuck is a pretty good looking guy with a haircut.

Chuck and Sarah may not work as a MARRIED couple, but they worked great as a couple for the first few years of the show -- so blame that more on the show's writers than the two's chemistry.
And as for Von Alden on Boardwalk Empire, his actions are completely in character. He had his one-night mistake the one time in his life and he is now paying for it morally, so of course he'd see the child through and try and justify the guilt. It also fits with his seething resentment of Nucky.
Oh, God. Look, Kurt is not just adorable. He's a hotass, and he has more consistently than any other character supported, sacrificed, and propped up other characters. His dad, his brother, his friends, his boyfriend. When was the last time you saw him throw any kind of fit? Really. High strung. Kurt is highly intelligent and capable and more than worthy of Blaine. This review is just ugly, whether or not you think they have chemistry.
I do happen to think that Blaine has his own good characteristics, but they aren't what you list. He's generous to a fault, secretly a sore loser (which is cute when put in conflict with the first), easy-going (goes well with Kurt's intensity), and talented. He's not as emotionally intelligent as Kurt, but why not? he's a teenager and he hasn't had to care for a parent the way Kurt has. It's fun watching Blaine come out of his birdcage.
Honestly, this list could be made up of all Glee couples. No one buys any of them and since the writers apparently change week to week, so do the couples. Someone find that show a compass and direction STAT!
Totally agree that Kurt/Blaine is unbelievable, but not because Kurt sucks. I think they're unbelievable because Blaine has never shown any of the genuine interest in Kurt that Kurt has shown in him. Also, Blaine is either overpowering the whole show or he's Kurt's prop - he's not a real character, and therefore can't be in a believable relationship.
He threw a fit when Rachel decided to run for Student Council President, still I like Klaine but Kurt is most def high strung, but the nice thing is Blaine calms his down.
When she decided to run for Student Council President, he told her without raising his voice that she was going to look back one day and regret stomping on her friends. Calling that "throwing a fit" is homophobia on your part. They're having a fight, and not an unreasonable one.
I'd add Danny and Lindsey from CSI: NY to this list. Their pairing and what happened to the show around the same time just made me switch off, but mostly it was them. No chemistry at all.
I've been noticing the random Chuck hate, too. I'll admit the show's not as great as it once was, but the consistent ragging on it is jarring since this site used to be one of it's biggest supporters.
I really feel like the writers let Chuck and Sarah down, since in the first two seasons they had amazing chemistry. Still, the scene in the premiere when they were talking in bed about their dream house felt sweet and natural in a way so many TV couples don't. Hopefully this is a sign that they're turning things around.

He told her why his being president was good for everyone at the school -- not just him, or the boys, or the girls, or the gay kids. He wasn't thinking selfishly. He actually usually doesn't. Agree with some of the commenters that Chuck and Sarah work well together. Much better than when they were artificially kept apart for way too long. And, I do know this site is about being 'without pity' but it does seem to have done quite the 180 degrees on its views on 'Chuck'.
Also, I think Kurt & Blaine work, but Blaine just does not fit into the Glee Club - he worked so much as the Warblers, and their harmonies were such a relief to watch after the constant bickering in Mckinley.

The endless planning for the wedding on Chuck just derailed the romance entirely - in fact it derailed all the storytelling for that season. It made no sense at all for Sarah to suddenly become some kind of lame bitchy bridezilla more obsessed with having the perfect ceremony than with having the love of her life. That whole storyline was super-boring and it went on FOREVER. And now the writers are pushing an equally boring storyline involving "buying the perfect house."
Chuck and Sarah were a GREAT couple with fantastic chemistry but the writers' cynicism is killing them. Hope this changes so the series goes out on a high note.

Say what you will about "The Office" in its 8th season, but Jim & Pam are still convincing as a couple. On the other hand, Ryan & Kelly should have placed 1st on this list--unless part of the fun of watching them is that EVERYONE notices they don't work together in any way at all.
