They're outta here!
And just like that, this year's Oscars telecast loses both its producer and host. Eddie Murphy has followed Brett Ratner out the Kodak Theater's stage door after his Tower Heist director resigned his positioned following some dubious comments about who exactly "rehearsal" is for. Now the mad scramble begins to find replacements for both guys before the big night. Someone check James Franco's calendar.
Another industry veteran is leaving his post soon, although unlike the Ratner/Murphy situation, his departure has been planned for some time. Regis Philbin's final week on his syndicated chat show Live! With Regis and Kelly kicks off next week and the list of guests that will be dropping by to bid him bon voyage includes such Live! staples as Donald Trump, David Letterman and Kelly's predecessor, Kathie Lee Gifford. Meanwhile, there's still no word on who will replace Regis full-time going forward. Again, we suggest someone check James Franco's calendar.
Ladies, get your itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikinis ready: Revenge of the Nerds stars Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong are working on a nerd-centric reality show. Considering how wonderfully bad Beauty and the Geek was, we're drooling in excitement.
Sean Astin goes from ring-bearer's assistant to amateur superhero for a guest star stint in Season 2 of TNT's legal series Franklin & Bash. Meanwhile, pop star Nick Jonas will play a deadbeat dad on an upcoming episode of the Tim Allen sitcom Last Man Standing. Hey, what's lamer than not providing for your family? Guest starring on Last Man Standing.
CBS is developing a series based on the 1958 classic Western The Rifleman. Director Chris Columbus and CSI veteran Carol Mendelsohn are already on board, and we're already wondering what our grandkids will have to say about this show that will last decades.
Because MTV Networks and Viacom love terrible and pointless award shows, Comedy Central is bringing back The Comedy Awards. Here's hoping they at least have the decency to not let Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino into the ceremony.
