We've been frustrated with this last season, but there was a time when we found Chuck quite charming, so much so that we actually looked forward to each new episode. Now we're mostly glad that the show is finally ending. Here's what we've missed about the series, and what we won't once it's gone.
Loved: Chuck Was an Adorable Geek with an Intersect in His Brain
When the series began, Chuck Bartowski was just an ordinary video game enthusiast with a knack for fixing computers. He was working a dead-end job, alongside his childhood best friend, with few dating prospects on the horizon. A dorky but loveable everyman who was totally relatable, but who, because he knew a fella named Bryce Larkin, ended up with all of the government's secrets implanted in his brain.
Hated: Chuck Stopped Being Nerdy
We were excited when the Intersect 2.0 gave Chuck a special kung-fu grip, but sadly it meant that our little nerd had become a real action hero. He suddenly developed spy skills that he kept once the Intersect was removed from his brain. And instead of being a charming IT guy, he started his own company, landed a hot wife and still went out on adventures. Long gone was the clumsy dope we loved so much.
Loved: Sarah's Odd Jobs
Sarah's always been stunning, particularly in the parade of bikinis she's had to wear over the years. But we also loved seeing her make the Weinerlicious and Orange Orange costumes work. And the fact that she had to keep up her cover at those goofy fast-food joints.
Hated: Chuck and Sarah Got Married
We're not entirely cold-hearted, so seeing this couple get married might have made a fitting series finale. But watching their post-nuptial not-so-bliss was nothing but a drain on the show. The two bickered about keeping secrets and struggled to cope with their conflicting views of the future. It was remarkably annoying, and we far preferred the "will they or won't they" suspense of the earlier seasons.
Loved: Casey vs. Chuck
When Chuck first got the Intersect, he was more than a little inept when it came to the spy game, much to the disappointment of Casey. The gruff NSA agent always put down Chuck at every possible moment and constantly tried to get him sidelined. Still, with all the ribbing and jabs between them, watching Chuck torture Casey (largely inadvertently) was responsible for a huge portion of show's humor.
Hated: Casey vs. Morgan
Once Chuck became a full-fledged agent (and Casey's boss of sorts at Carmichael Industries), Casey had less issues with him and the abrasive but endearing relationship between them became an actual friendship. But since Casey still had to be rough around the edges, Morgan became his go-too irritant. While Morgan did a good job of being a pest, it seemed like Casey was just phoning in his annoyance.
Loved: Lots of Pop Culture References
We're always happy to get our geek on, and this show was filled with sci-fi and fantasy references galore. With its homages to movies (particularly the Die Hard tie-in during the Christmas episode) or the use of a Tron (the original, natch) poster as a secret hiding place for intel, this show intertwined mentions of current video games with movies from our childhoods effortlessly.
Hated: Too Many Product Placements
It's not that we object to the product placements -- after all the Subway campaign kept the show on far longer than anyone would have anticipated -- and ads built into shows are par for the course on TV these days. But there had to have been a more subtle, seamless way to integrate products then by having Big Mike talking about his $5 footlong all the damn time.
Loved: Great Guest Stars
In addition to the pop culture references, the show has been chock full of cult icons and just really cool people, from Linda Hamilton to Christopher Lloyd to Scott Bakula to Chevy Chase to Superman Returns' Brandon Routh. The show even made Nicole Richie seem pretty badass, which was no small feat.
Hated: Everyone Got the Intersect
The whole premise of the show was that Bryce put the Intersect into Chuck's brain because he knew that Chuck's capacity for code could handle it. But in the past season, the Intersect has turned into Halloween candy, where anyone who dons a pair of glasses can upload it. We're glad that the show is ending before Ellie's baby ends up putting on the glasses.
Loved: Keeping Secrets from Loved Ones
The whole great thing about spies is that they can lead those double lives. Watching Chuck try and maintain his family life and social life, while balancing this whopper of a secret lead to so very many near misses that added plenty of drama as well as lighthearted moments to the show.
Hated: Everyone Is On Team Bartowski
By the time even Jeff and Lester found out that Chuck's a spy, they might as well have put up a billboard in the middle of Burbank to announce it. Morgan discovering the secret made a certain amount of sense, but when Ellie and Awesome were looped in, we knew the show as in trouble.
Loved: Jeffster! and Nerd Herd Humor
The first time we saw Jeffster! perform "Africa," we laughed out loud at the bizarreness of this duo. Same goes for when we witnessed the appalling, ridiculous behavior of the other Buy More employees. Perhaps it was the smell of Fritos that we could practically smell wafting from the store's back room that made it all seem so appealing.
Hated: Too Much Jeffster! and Buy More
Jeffster! rocking a live performance at Ellie and Awesome's wedding? Fun. Jeffster! trying to make it as a real band? Too much. The Buy More getting destroyed repeatedly? Good times. The Buy More being shoehorned in as a plotline long after that cover story was really necessary? Not so good.

I was such a hardcore fan of Chuck for the first 3 seasons or so, but it has fallen off to the point I stopped watching. Still, it was nice to see that little show survive as long as it did through the power of the fans. Zach & Yvonne will go on to do very well elsewhere. And Adam Baldwin...call me.
Loved: DeAnn Welker/Couch Baron's thoughtful recaps of Chuck
Hated: Angel Cohn's "reviews" of Chuck
WTF?! their is nothing to hate on Chuck. And most of the things you hated on, i can defend completely. Chuck has always been amazing and still it.
Chuck is everything I could ever want in a show. I wish it could last forever.
I'd have to disagree with your assessment of Morgan and Casey. I loved watching the two of them together. I'd have to agree with everything else, though. But I'm really gonna miss this show.

It's kinda funny that someone would complain about a show actually getting the romantic leads together well before the end game when that is the universal complaint on other shows (Bones, Castle etc). I personally like that they went for it & showed there could still be tension after a wedding.

Thank you for validating my exact feelings on this show. Great show at first, but it jumped the shark the minute Chuck and Sarah got together. I haven't seen a single episode of this last season, and I probably won't bother at this point.
Yeah, the show did go downhill once ANGEL COHN took over recapping. Have a little heart for once.
The only one I agree with: "Everyone Got the Intersect."
No question that the show isn't what it once was, but most other reviews of the past few episodes have liked them while pointing out plot holes, annoying things, etc. Angel's reviews are all about the negative (a D+ for last week's fantastic episode? WTF) without acknowledging any of the positives.
It all came together in the end; we watched for a reason, and the finale reminded us of that :)
An okay ending to a show who came into to our lives with a big bang. Unfortunately, the show didn't really end with a big bang.
If I remember correctly, the intersect in Chuck never had any side-effects right? But now everyone else seems to have the really bad side effects. And the current version of the intersect is an off-shoot of the one that Morgan put in himself that was a Trojan Horse by Decker right?
I love that Cohn's biggest complaint is that Chuck didn't stay a fumbling buffoon for all five season. I mean, we'd hate to see a character develop personal growth or anything.
Absolutely agree with al the comments here. I was a huge fan of Chuck for the first 2 years. I used to change my plans so I could watch it as soon as it came out. I was up in arms when there was talk of it being cancelled. Then all of a sudden I found myself doing other things while it was on in the background. Then I realised I was fast forwarding scenes just to see Adam Baldwin. Then I realised that I hadn't watched it for about 6 months...
Loved the charachters on show, first 3 seasons were very entertaining and funny, Then the show got a bit hoky, with the team growing each week. found finale as bit if as let down. I do not understand why the writers chose to go in a different direction?. they took a light hearted show and tried to make it something it was not. Would it have killed them to have Sara re gain her memory?. Who cares if they kissed at the end, If she does not remember Chuck and what they went through , then what were the last 5 seasons about?. Again disapointed in the finale could have and should have been better ..at least for the fans.
Liked first 3 seasons, do not know why team grew, part of appeal were quirky antics of Chuck, and if they do not get together at end of show what was the point. Very disapointing Some great guest stars good musical references at times to bad they missed the boat in the end.
Hah! Personally I think it would be hilarious if toddler Clara got a hold of a pair of 'Intersect' glasses and put them on. Being Ellie's daughter & Chuck's niece she would of COURSE be able to handle the intersect. Fun cartoon spin-off, imho. Yeah, well...I'm just going to miss seeing Zachary Levi on my screen every week.
LOVED Chuck from the very beginning right to the bitter end. Sure this last season wasn't as good as previous season, but I watched to the bitter end and loved every minute of it.

So, basically, like many fans, you hated that this show evolved into anything other than what it was in the first two seasons.
I was disappointed with most of this season, plot-wise, but I loved the finale. I loved how horrifying the first hour was and I loved that it took a risk with the ending. I didn't see this as a "everyone lives happily ever after" ending like Angel apparently did. They could, but not necessarily.
I wish DeAnn Welker had kept doing the full recaps for this season. It was hard to read recaps from someone who so obviously hated the show.

Y'all keep saying that if Will They Or Won't They is fun for one season, by gosh it'll be fun for three, five, seventeen.... And it really, really, really isn't. Most of the stuff you hate I'll put down to taste, but the idea that people endlessly circling each other--for YEARS--is a romantic dance that's fun to watch is just wrong. Become friends, become lovers, but don't pretend that the UST can be maintained forever. If you can't get together after 2 years, it's time to admit at least one of you just isn't feeling it.
Same with the friends and family finding out. In one season it's charming. By season three these people just look dumb.
I don't claim Chuck did a perfect job on these two changes, but they were essential to the idea of the show lasting more than two seasons.
Ending was too bittersweet for me - don't know what will happen to the couple without her memories back. Her character's growth disappeared. But will miss the show very much.

I loved the show, despite a few bumps along the way (primarily season 5). It was a fun, light-hearted show that made me laugh. I liked the characters, the situations, the in-jokes, and the fun. I'll miss it, but it was time to end it.
I just wish the recaps weren't filled with such anger over the past few months.
Came into Chuck late, got hooked. Got to read the lovingly done recaps on TWOP for the first 3 seasons as I caught up. For me things took a dive when Shaw came back from the dead. I can't get behind the vitrolic spew Angel Cohn provides 70% of the time, but I can definitely see the points made here. When everyone has the Intersect and knows about the spy world, Sarah went from super badass to near-simpering insecure girlfriend role, and Chuck stopped having a geeky good time and yet holds on to things that he really shouldn't have in his growth projectory then a lot of the magic that sucked you into Chuck is gone. Will be missed!
Chuck will be sorely missed in my house. This was one of the few shows that my 14-year-old son and I could sit down and watch and enjoy and then talk about for a couple of days after. The first three seasons were great, the fourth was OK and we watched the 5th season but had alot of complaints. We enjoyed the final two but we were left wanting seeing that the writers chose not to let Sarah get her memory back. Would love to see a couple of Chuck movies but we will just have to settle on watching past seasons when we need our Chuck fix. Long live Chuck!

My biggest complaint about later Chuck was that Jeff, Lester, and the Buymore were still part of the show after season two or so. I loved that Chuck and Sarah got together long before the end. But I absolutely hated how the show kept the undercover in Burbank aspects as long as it did, and the brain cells I was losing over that were what stopped me on the show. Unfortunately, I think that the lesson that networks will learn from Chuck is "don't put your romantic leads together" rather than "don't be afraid to transition away your from aspects of your original premise that no longer work as the series goes on."

This show really sucks. I mean what there is not to hate? Chuck is one spineless retard with a stupid voice and idiotic face expressions. He is unable to do anything right and just laughs as he fucks up through everything. Haha, i didnt stay in the car and look where it got me now, haha.
Sarah is cute with her funny teeth and yeah, even if the idea is cheap, it works for the "geeks", to put her show her underwear in every episode. But this how can a geek get a woman like that-theme is just too american and as such, so stupid.
And as it comes to being too american, i mean these lame moral values. Family is important, that is why we have this angelic sister, whose boyfriend is all american dream, tho in this case surprisingly well written, being more ironical than serious. But why is Chuck living with her, in this quite expensive house? Is it illegal to show in America what poor people really look like, or even just mediocre people? And if the point of their mothers day was to remember how their mother left and how they learned to take care of themselves, isnt it about time that the baby Chuck learns it too and gets his own fucking place? I mean what is he, 30 or something?
Chuck is about this fucking impotent idiot loser, who never deserves anything, not because he is a geek, who the fuck isnt these days, some neanderthals who play football? Chuck doesnt deserve anything because he is weak, stupid, annoying little piece of shit. Only people similar to his best friends can admire his company in real life. I find it really amazing and worth to study, how people can like this series. Why do you like to watch losers getting better things than they really deserve. How one idiot gets it all without any effort to even restrain his own stupidity. Chuck is saved by these better people from his own stupidity. And yet we are to believe, he is the real hero.
