Did anyone notice the huge amount of pop culture references in "Lifetime Supply"? I felt like every few lines, there was a reference to Colin Firth or Harry Potter -- not that it hurt the episode or anything. In fact, last night's winter premiere was one of my favorites of Season 3. There were a lot of great things happening in the episode, but I give credit to Sofia Vergara for actually nailing most of her lines, as well as everything to do with Manny, Jay and Javier's storyline. Benjamin Bratt is always excellent on this show and he feels like one of the few guest stars that the writers know exactly how and when to use. I could've done without another storyline featuring Mitchell and Cameron bickering, but all together, "Lifetime Supply" was a great way to start off the second half of the season. Of all of the laugh-out-loud lines, these, to me, were the best:
"Let's just say I don't get out of bed for a trophy that size."
-- Alex, who has cracked me up almost every episode this season. Modern Family has really been capturing the cool high school nerd-girl experience with her, and Ariel Winter delivers these big moments pitch-perfect.
"Wanna give you a heads up in case there's some overlap."
-- Manny, previewing his ridiculous birthday golfing outfit to Jay. And if "Lifetime Supply" is any indication, the show remembered how to write for him again. Rejoice!
"No, he makes it more fun because he was in a real war! He says cool things like, 'See you in hell, Klaus!' Ha ha, I don't even know what that means!"
-- Luke, on playing video games with his 80-year-old friend Walt. Odd that the writers remember to include that minor character into this show, but have yet to make any other mention of Phil's new best friend living next door... not that I'm complaining about there being slightly less Kevin Hart in my life.
"Maybe Luke hit you with his broomstick when you guys were playing Quidditch."
-- Claire. I loved her deadpan delivery (of course Luke and Phil play Quidditch together), and how it was followed by Phil replying that he "way too fast" for Luke to ever touch him and then discrediting her diagnosis by passively calling her a marketing major at a party school. An honorable mention goes to Phil for his game show appearance, but I think those segments had potential to be way funnier.
"Just like I always end up on the shortest line at the bank."
-- Javier, talking about his uncanny betting ability that lends itself beyond the scope of horses. I think my favorite moment of the episode was Jay's smart-ass move of opening his eyes wide as he pretended to be ready to talk to Javier after he had said he could look into a horse's soul through its eyes.

I agree with you on two points: Sofia Vergara was on fire, and I am so tired of Mitchell and Cameron's constant bickering. I don't understand why they are together. The episode was meh for me, just as it has been all year.
