Would you give this woman a People's Choice Award? (Apparently, you did.)
The American people have spoken and they've apparently decided that Katy Perry's guest stint on How I Met Your Mother was worthy of an award for Favorite TV Guest Star. That was just one of the questionable results at last night's People's Choice Awards, which also awarded statues to Jimmy Fallon (Favorite Late Night TV Host), Adam Sandler (Favorite Comedic Movie Actor) and Lea Michele (Favorite TV Comedy Actress). Those winners were funnier than the telecast itself. Read our recap of the awards and the night's best and worst fashions.
It's gonna be a hot time in the Pacific region when NCIS: Los Angeles and Hawaii Five-0 pull their two-night crossover stunt during May sweeps. The event will begin with Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J traveling to Hawaii and help the Five-0 team hunt down a biological weapon, a case that eventually takes them all back to La-La Land. Hey, any chance CBS can go for a hat trick by sending one of them to the Big Apple to be a Person of Interest for Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson?
Nancy Botwin has been able to stay ahead of the cancellation police for several seasons now, but it's looking like Season 8 of Weeds may be the show's last. Showtime president David Nevins told the TCA press corps that cancellation is "a real possibility" after the show's yet-to-be filmed new season, even though it still ranks as the network's highest-rated comedy series. Nevins also used the occasion to announce the impending returns of Nurse Jackie, The Big C and The Borgias on April 8, as well as a documentary about former Vice President Dick Cheney to be directed by RJ Cutler and another covering the life and career groundbreaking comic Richard Pryor.
Speaking of TCA, the big news out of yesterday's series of panels was the incredibly uncomfortable meet the press session with Michael Patrick King, co-creator of 2 Broke Girls. King got into a sparring session with several journalists over the show's walking parade of stereotypical supporting characters and eventually resorted to making fun of the Irish as a way to deflect criticism. At least it's now obvious that King really does read and polish every script before it goes on air.
Bill Hader's Stefon persona on Saturday Night Live has apparently crossed over into the real world. An anonymous Yelp commenter has been posting reviews of NYC hot spots in the voice and manner of Weekend Update's favorite culture guide. For us at least, Stefon's seal of approval is more important than any Zagat guide.
