On a slow week for TV on DVD releases, we highlight a series that answers the age-old question... is friendship really magic?
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Bronies of the world, unite! The reboot of the '80s animated series My Little Pony garnered headlines last year when it turned out that its appeal wasn't limited only to kids. Twenty and thirtysomething geeks also got hooked on the show -- which is currently in its second season on The Hub -- producing fan art, fan vids and even collecting toys. If you aren't a regular viewer, here's your chance to see what the fuss is about as Shout! releases five episodes from Pony's first season, including the two-part pilot Friendship is Magic, in which Twilight Sparkle learns the power of friendship while attempting to defeat a villain who is threatening the safety of Equestria. Watch it with your kids... or yourself.
Extras: Sing-alongs, a "Meet the Ponies" featurette and an episode of the Pound Puppies reboot.
Midsomer Murders: Set 19
Basically the UK version of Law & Order (though not to be confused with the actual UK version of Law & Order, Law & Order: UK) this long-running detective series has been on the British airwaves since 1997. Set in the fictional titular county, Midsomer Murders follows the investigations of the regional police force into all sorts of crimes and misdemeanors. This set collects four episodes from the show's thirteenth season (UK audiences are up to Season 15), the last one featuring original star John Nettles as DCI Tom Barnaby. Law & Order famously lasted twenty seasons -- that leaves Midsomer Murders with just six more years to go before it passes its predecessor.

Speaking of Law & Order, the cancelled series is still putting out complete season sets, the latest collection being Law & Order: The 10th Year. (Don't forget that there's a mammoth Complete Series set out there as well.) Elsewhere, The Angry Beavers: Season Three, Part 1 offers the first half of the popular Nickelodeon cartoon's third season; Mission: Impossible Season 2: The '89 Season contains the sophomore year of the M:I franchise's pre-Tom Cruise '80s revamp; and Here Come the Brides: The Complete Second Season collects all 26 episodes from the late '60 sitcom spin-off of the musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
