Modern Family: Last Night's Five Best Lines

Truth be told, I thought Claire's campaign was over after this incident, which clearly represents how much I've been invested in the story arcs this season. That's not to say Season 3 has been particularly bad; but on account of the sizeable ensemble, very little ever gets accomplished in the way of plot in Modern Family. Frankly, as long as everyone gets to be funny, Cam and Mitchell don't bicker and our guest star appearances are limited, I'm a happy camper. And as you can probably guess, I enjoyed "Election Day" (which was directed by Bryan Cranston, so I was probably a bit biased going in, given my serious Breaking Bad obsession), especially these moments:

"Our daughter might be going to college!"
Haley's college storyline is by far my favorite running arc this season (sorry, Cam and Mitchell's new baby), and I love that the show isn't going too easy on her. Claire sharing in her deflating moment was very sweet, and everyone gathered around cheering about her getting wait-listed was a lot of fun, especially with Luke wrapped up in blue tape.

"I'm a good dancer, they'll come for me."
What can I say? Crotchety Walt cracks me up, especially his lines about accidentally getting gay married juxtaposed with Phil's patience. High fives for old people occasionally forgetting things!

"CONDOLENCES CLAIRE"
Thanks to Arrested Development, I'm a sucker for a good banner. Of all of the election-based moments, this one was my favorite, even more so than the teeth gags and her "drunk voice." It was also cute to hear her laugh about her future in radio, as was the former ad sales reporter whose turn it was to interview voters.

"Why aren't you in school?"
The Gloria/Jay plotline had so much potential, but it unfortunately peaked with this throwaway line about Manny having Election Day off. Dottie refusing to put Jay's ballot into the box was funny, but the show got points off for not showing us a flashback of Jay desperately putting his pants on in her front yard with the car rolling on neutral. And we get it: Gloria is good looking and can't remember the names of animals. That'll get her the Emmy. (Ugh, it probably will, honestly.)

"We could really make a difference. We could be the voice of change." "Oh, I got it! Let's go yell at the drycleaner who lost my shirt"
By far the best gags of the night were from the PA system in Cam and Mitch's car. The axes to grind, their snarky commentary about the town, the gossiping, Mitch's Sandra Bullock sarcasm, "I'm sorry if that wasn't Claire," helping Hugh Jackman's career... easily a season highlight. Even the dimpled-chad joke got me. See how good it is when these two bond!?
