Saturday Night Live: The Most Memorable Farewells

While it still hasn't been made official, it's safe to assume that this weekend's Mick Jagger-hosted season finale of Saturday Night Live marked the last time that Kristen Wiig will appear in Studio 8H... as an ensemble player at least. (We suspect she'll be back as a host somewhere down the line.) After all, considering that teary send-off to the tune of "Ruby Tuesday" it'll be strange if she returns in the fall. And although Andy Samberg (who may also be leaving) didn't get quite as obvious a farewell, his season-ending Digital Short -- which sequelized the skit that got launched the whole franchise seven years ago, "Lazy Sunday" -- suggested that it was a wrap for him as well. The only question mark now is Jason Sudeikis, another supposedly departing cast member who barely appeared in any sketches at all. While we wait for the formal announcement about casting changes, here are the episode's most memorable send-offs.

Lazy Sunday 2
Sure, it may not have been as fresh as the original "Lazy Sunday" but it was fun to see Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg enjoying one final rap session, this time about the hit Broadway show, Sister Act. And if this was indeed Samberg's swan song, bringing the Digital Shorts back full circle made for an appropriate farewell.

The Lawrence Welk Show
Not all goodbyes have to be sad. We're more than happy to not have to see any more of this sketch and Wiig's creepy Dooneese persona. Then again, it could have been worse. We could have had to sit through another Gilly sketch.

Secret Word
On the other hand, we grew to like the crazy Broadway actress Mindy Elise Grayson that Wiig plays on this recurring sketch. Granted, this wasn't one of the best "Secret Word" installments, but again were just thankful it wasn't Gilly or the Target Lady.

Stefon
Bill Hader thankfully isn't going anywhere yet, so we have another season of Stefon to look forward to after the summer hiatus. Consider this a temporary goodbye rather than a permanent farewell.

So Long, Kristen
As departures-by-music go, we slightly preferred the Jimmy Fallon/Tina Fey duet of "Summer Nights" that closed out Fallon's time on SNL, but this was an entirely sweet and heartfelt send-off to Wiig. Good luck in Hollywood, Kristen. Don't let the studios force you into making Bridesmaids 2.
