NBC and Fox are down, so now it's ABC's turn
Upfront madness continues today, as ABC presents its new wares, among them Nashville (with Connie Britton!), 666 Park Avenue (with Terry O'Quinn!) and Zero Hour (with... Anthony Edwards?). As for that Guillermo Del Toro-produced Hulk series, it didn't land a place on the schedule this year, but it may be ready for the 2013-2014 season, especially now that the character is cool again thanks to The Avengers. As for its existing shows, the network is moving Revenge to the Sunday night slot vacated by the not-so-dearly departed Desperate Housewives, while Tim Allen's Last Man Standing moves to Fridays as part of a comedy block with Reba McEntire's Malibu Country. TGIF lives!
If Dan Harmon does indeed wind up leaving Community, at least he'll have a home at Cartoon Network. The channel has picked up Harmon's half-hour animated series Rick & Morty as one of eight new shows, including a Harold & Kumar cartoon spin-off (with Kal Penn and John Cho both aboard to reprise their roles) and a Tim Burton-produced show entitled Rolling With Dad. Here's hoping Harold & Kumar turns out better than that Napoleon Dynamite cartoon.
In non-upfront news, Keith Richards has said that he won't be appearing during his bandmate's Mick Jagger's Saturday Night Live hosting/musical guest appearance this weekend. We'll choose to believe him for now, but we also wouldn't put it past Richards to turn up in the middle of a sketch just because he can.
Okay, enough of that. Back to upfronts! As everyone in the world knows by now, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato are joining Simon Cowell's Ego Trip... uh, we mean The X Factor for the show's second season, as Cowell throws everything and anything he can at the wall to make sure the series sticks this time. Hey, since he lost The Voice, we see a great opportunity for Tony Lucca to show up on another competitive reality series and irrationally annoy one of his fellow Mickey Mouse Club alumni. Maybe he'll cover "Dirrty" in front of Spears just to further spite Xtina.
