Snooki & JWOWW: One Over-Processed Meatball

I don't know if you've been watching this season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, but something really interesting has been happening: The entire cast acknowledges that they're on a reality show and are now regularly featured in tabloids. They argue about how some of them are media (prostitution) whores and gossip about how much they've changed now that they're in the spotlight. It's really great television and I still don't understand why MTV hasn't done the same with Jersey Shore.

Instead, Snooki & JWOWW is overproduced and -- especially when Snooki told JWOWW for "the first time" that she's pregnant and engaged -- completely fake. Look, I know that people lump the Shore gang in with the Kardashians (where I personally draw my line) and the rest of the collapse of human civilization, and while I can obviously understand why, I actually really enjoy Snooki and JWOWW as reality stars. I think their chemistry is fun to watch and that they balance out each other's craziness (I would not be able to make it through a Snooki and Deena series, which would inevitably be named #TeamMeatball), but adding elements where the two pretend to be oblivious to their fame -- like when they were "so creeped out" but a neighbor who was looking at them -- does nothing but take away from what makes this show appealing. That being said, I'm looking forward to a season without the same overplayed drama with the rest of the group -- especially The Situation. As for Jionni, that's what the fast forward button on our remotes is for.

In terms of the series premiere, Snooki & JWOWW is already far more promising than the Shore spin-off disaster that was The Pauly D Project. If the trailers are to be believed, we'll have a no-fuss season of familiar faces, low-stakes shenanigans and Snooki saying really dumb things about being pregnant. If you're still on the fence about whether or not you want to watch, the way that you respond to this statement will be indicative of your answer: "Instead of life throwing me a curve ball, it threw me a sperm ball." Again, I totally get the collapse of human civilization thing.
