ABC Family picked up a series from Gavin Polone, another former Gilmore Girls producer. Hopefully the network won't have quite as much blind faith with this one. Then again, they also greenlit a series to be produced by Jennifer Lopez, so someone there must not be thinking straight.

For its upcoming movie Betty and Coretta, Lifetime has cast Angela Bassett as Coretta Scott King and Mary J. Blige as the widow of Malcolm X, Dr. Betty Shabazz. This is actually really interesting subject matter for a film, too bad it'll be ruined by Lifetime.

Malin Akerman will appear on two episodes of Suburgatory this season as Tessa's mother Alex. It'll be interesting to see them explain how George could have possibly ever landed her. (Fun fact: Akerman is only 11 years older than Jane Levy.)

Newcomer Tessa Ferrer will join Grey's Anatomy next season, though who she will play is unknown. Though it is Grey's Anatomy, so whoever the character is, at least we know she'll be irritating.

Some more casting news, Thomas Middleditch, formerly of various College Humor videos, will play Dwight's brother Jeb on The Office's spin-off, The Farm. Is there any way Mike Schur can find time away from making Parks & Recreation perfect to play Mose here too?

We were very sad to hear that Jerry Nelson, the voice of Count von Count on Sesame Street, has passed away. He has entertained many generations of children and will be missed.
