Believe it or not, Showtime really does air programs besides Dexter and Homeland.

Shameless: The Complete Second Season
Californication: The Fifth Season House of Lies: Season One
Although Homeland frequently threatened to become a comedy during Season 2 thanks to a series of implausible plot twists, Showtime still includes it amongst their dramatic offerings, slapping the "comedy" label on these three shows instead. Shameless continues the misadventures of the Gallagher clan, a working-class Chicago-based brood of six kids with a drunk for a dad (William H. Macy) and chips on their various shoulders. While mixed at best, Shameless is far less off-putting than the David Duchovny-led Californication, which has managed to survive five seasons despite being one of the most unappealing cable shows around. Season 5 finds the show's anti-hero, novelist Hank Moody (Duchovny) living in New York initially, but he winds up returning to L.A. primarily because the title won't make sense otherwise. On the surface, Showtime's youngest comedy House of Lies -- set in the high-stakes world of management consulting -- would seem to have a lot going for it, starting with the fact that the cast includes Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell and Ben "Jean-Ralphio" Schwartz. But while the actors are clearly trying their best, the material keeps letting them down. It's one of those cable comedies that tries so hard to be daring and provocative that it just comes across as profoundly square. We'll stick with HBO's Eastbound & Down, thanks.
Extras: Shameless comes with three featurettes, a music video and unaired scenes, while Californication just offers bonus episodes of Dexter and The Borgias. House of Lies features cast and crew commentary on two episodes, plus four featurettes.

Funny or Die: The Complete Second Season
The Life and Times of Tim: The Complete Third Season
Speaking of HBO comedies, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's online link factory for original comic videos starring big-name stars made the leap from the computer screen to the small screen in 2010, when the pay cable channel acquired a share in the site and gave FoD a half-hour series to show off its wares. Practically anyone who is anyone in the comedy world right now pops up in one sketch or another, from Rob Riggle and Paul Scheer to Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader. And that's not even counting all the other familiar faces (among them Don Cheadle, Ben Stiller and Zooey Deschanel) who stop by on occasion during Season 2's collection of skits. And even if you've seen some of these bits online already, they're just as funny on DVD. Also arriving on DVD today is the third and final season of HBO's animated comedy The Life and Times of Tim, which was cancelled, resurrected and then cancelled again. But don't feel that you missed out on the next Family Guy or anything; Tim was never appointment-viewing and didn't really take advantage of its second chance to make a first impression. So adios Tim -- we never really knew you enough to miss you.
Extras: Both DVD sets are extras free.

Also on DVD:
The '80s He-Man cartoon hits the big 3-0 and celebrates with the Masters of the Universe: 30th Anniversary Limited Edition, a lavish box set that includes new documentaries, a bonus audio CD and an exclusive replica (not to size, unfortunately) of He-Man's Power Sword. Hey, remember that CBS medical drama A Gifted Man from the 2011 TV season? No? Neither do we, frankly. But it's on DVD anyway for the three people that care. Finally, Army Wives: Season Six, Part 2 offers the back half of the Lifetime hit's sixth season and The Sarah Silverman Program: Season Three collects the third and final year of the comic's defunct Comedy Central sitcom.
