I was not a fan of "Emergency Response." Aside from the Upright Citizens Brigade mini-reunion (where's Crazy Ira when you need him?!), Leslie's pre-taped emergency alerts, "You're On with Ron" and the Mouse Rat performance, nothing really made me laugh or even very excited. I know I talked about (and disagreed with) the show being too upbeat last week, but I think this episode was way too predictable and over-the-top in its positivity and triumph of spirit. I miss Human Disaster Ben (who can now throw together a gala in hours?), directionless Tom, sad Ann and pre-therapy Chris -- if one of them had been having a bad time in "Emergency Response," there would have been at least some balance to the episode. Instead, everything worked out in the end, even with Leslie simulating the destruction of Pawnee and Andy failing his police exam test, considering the light bulb we saw turn on in Chris's head while getting the "bad" news. Ugh, and now Ben and Leslie are rushing their wedding (not unlike... every other sitcom ever, most recently 30 Rock)? You had one job, Show! (And don't get me started on the in-your-face Macy's and Vita Coco Coconut Water advertising.)
But because I do love Parks and Recreation and take no pleasure in harping on it, in lieu of grading, let's just list the best lines of the evening and hope that there's better luck next week. And hey, the episode was a whole lot better than this week's Office and Community combined and multiplied.
Councilman Jamm: "Let the record show there was a standing ovation."
Leslie: "Well, the planning commission has a week to decide if they want a beautiful, innovative community park, or a bunch of greasy lard bombs... I'm not editorializing -- Paunch Burger's number-one-selling burger is the Greasy Lard Bomb."
Tom: "I'm omelet -- get it? 'I'm on it' ... 'I'm omelet!' [...] Okay, I'm heading out. Good pie."
Jerry: "Oh my God, Gayle! My girls!"
Andy: "Arson is 533. You know how I remember that? I picture 533 salt shakers and batteries lighting a building on fire."
April: "Babe, look to me. You are going to pass this test, and you are going to become a cop. And if you don't, I'll just divorce you and marry someone else, and then cheat on them with you."
Chris: "Okay, casualty update: Only four dead! Two of them were already gravely ill, and brothers. That family took a terrible hit."
Leonard (Walsh): "Doesn't matter, prepare for the diarrhea."
Leslie: "It is with a heavy heart that I say: We have been Jammed."
Ron: "I've seen three movies in my life: Bridge on the River Kwai, Patton and Herbie: Fully Loaded. My girlfriend's kids love it. It's pretty funny."
Councilman Jamm: "Ghost Jammed!"
Leslie: "Thanks for dressing up, Jerry."
